Volunteers of America Delaware Valley invites a Senior HR Director to lead onsite in Camden, New Jersey. In this mission driven nonprofit, you will oversee the HR department, report to the Chief Operating Officer, and supervise the Director of Human Resources. Responsibilities
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate the Director of Human Resources
- Set HR department goals, priorities, and performance standards
- Ensure the HR department operates effectively, including oversight of the HR Generalist through the Director of Human Resources
- Review HR metrics, departmental performance, workforce trends, and compliance indicators
- Provide strategic oversight of recruitment, staffing, onboarding, benefits, compensation, performance management, employee relations, leave administration, HRIS, personnel records, and engagement initiatives
- Monitor HR processes and recommend improvements to strengthen efficiency, consistency, and compliance
- Ensure compliance with federal and New Jersey employment laws, including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEOC regulations, workers’ compensation, unemployment regulations, wage and hour requirements, licensing and credentialing standards, and organizational policies
- Coordinate with legal counsel on complex employment matters when necessary
- Provide guidance on disciplinary actions, employee complaints, investigations, conflict resolution, and difficult personnel matters
- Review termination recommendations before implementation
- Review salary recommendations, conduct market salary analyses, monitor compensation equity, and support benefit renewals
- Assist with annual budget planning related to personnel costs
- Support succession planning, management training, employee engagement, organizational culture, and change management initiatives
- Review and update personnel policies, recommend employee handbook revisions, develop HR procedures, and support consistent implementation
- Prepare reports related to turnover, vacancies, recruitment, retention, benefits utilization, compliance issues, and workforce trends
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field
- 7+ years of progressive Human Resources experience
- 3+ years of supervisory experience managing HR professionals
- Experience with organizations employing 250+ staff
- Thorough knowledge of New Jersey employment law
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills
- Demonstrated experience with employee relations, performance management, policy development, compensation administration, and compliance oversight
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters with discretion and sound judgment
