Job Description

Marco Board House, Inc. is hiring a Human Resources Specialist for its Poughkeepsie, NY location. This onsite role supports core HR operations across recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, HR compliance, payroll administration, and ongoing maintenance of employee records.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with recruiting activities including posting open roles, screening applicants, scheduling interviews, and presenting employment offers.
Support onboarding for new hires by completing new hire paperwork, entering employment data into Paychex, and presenting the Orientation PowerPoint.
Maintain accurate employee records, personnel files, and HRIS data while ensuring strict confidentiality.
Help administer payroll using Paychex, including payroll processing, updating employee data, entering missed punches, and processing payroll-related changes.
Serve as an HR partner by providing guidance and recommendations on employee relations, policy interpretation, performance management, and workplace issues.
Coordinate offboarding activities, including exit documentation, system access changes, and final HR procedures.
Process employee status changes, compensation adjustments, promotions, transfers, and benefit updates.
Provide guidance on benefit plan provisions and eligibility, resolve benefit issues, and support annual open enrollment activities.
May conduct employee relations investigations by evaluating findings, documenting outcomes, and recommending resolutions aligned with company policy and applicable employment laws.
Interpret and apply federal, state, and local employment laws to support HR compliance.
Maintain HR reports, organizational data, personnel documentation, and workforce records, including keeping training records up to date.
Support employee relations initiatives, including coordinating offsite events, managing the monthly birthday celebration, and handling related employee relations purchases.
Participate in HR projects and organizational initiatives that support business objectives.
Complete employee information requests for workers’ compensation claims, unemployment claims, leaves of absence, and employment verification requests.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned, including escalating complex employee relations issues to the Human Resources Manager/Director.

Required Qualifications

3+ years of Human Resources experience in a hands-on HR Generalist/Specialist or HR Operations role.
Associate’s degree in Business Administration/Human Resources preferred.
Knowledge of human resources management principles including talent management, performance management, employee benefits, and employee relations.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Experience handling confidential employee information with professionalism and discretion.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Monday through Friday schedule, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

Preferred Skills

Payroll experience strongly preferred; Paychex experience is a plus.

Job Description

Chestnut Petroleum is seeking a seasoned Human Resources Specialist to support its multi-site retail workforce from the company’s support center in Poughkeepsie, NY. The role is onsite and hands-on, overseeing recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, leave management, workers’ compensation, HR compliance, and employee relations, with HRIS data management in ADP Workforce Now. The position offers a salary range of USD 65,000 to 70,000 per year and requires at least five years of HR experience.

Responsibilities

Own recruitment and onboarding of all new hires
Assist with policy implementation, HR communications, and employee engagement initiatives
Support daily HR operations for a multi-site retail workforce
Assist employees and managers with HR-related questions, policies, and procedures
Administer employee benefits programs including enrollments, changes, terminations, and employee communications
Manage workers’ compensation claims, communication, and return-to-work coordination
Assist with employee relations matters, investigations, documentation, and corrective actions
Support unemployment claims administration and employment verification requests
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and company employment regulations and policies
Partner with store management teams to support workforce needs and HR best practices
Maintain confidentiality of employee information and company information

Requirements

5+ years of Human Resources experience required
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred
Experience supporting multi-location retail, hospitality, convenience store, or high-volume hourly environments preferred
Working knowledge of benefits administration, leave management, and workers’ compensation
Experience with HRIS systems; ADP Workforce Now experience strongly preferred
Familiarity with employment laws and HR compliance practices
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information professionally
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
