Job Description

Housing Advocacy Vocational and Employment is seeking a Human Resources Specialist to join our team in Gaithersburg, MD. This onsite role supports a mission-driven organization by strengthening recruitment, employee relations, HR compliance, and coordination across payroll and finance.

Role Overview

The Human Resources Specialist partners with internal stakeholders to manage key HR functions, including full-cycle recruiting, benefits and compensation administration, employee relations support, and maintenance of HR records and databases. The position also contributes to employment compliance efforts and helps ensure HR processes align with federal and Maryland requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Manage full-cycle recruitment, including job postings, candidate screening, interviews, and onboarding.
Administer employee benefits, compensation, and HR policy compliance.
Maintain accurate employee records and HR databases in accordance with federal and state regulations.
Serve as a point of contact for employee relations, conflict resolution, and performance management support.
Support training and development initiatives to encourage employee growth and retention.
Ensure compliance with Maryland labor laws, including FMLA, ADA, and other applicable employment regulations.
Assist with payroll processing and coordinate with finance as needed.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
4+ years of experience in an HR generalist or HR specialist role.
Knowledge of federal and Maryland state employment laws and HR best practices.
Proficiency with HRIS systems and the Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a people-first mindset.

Preferred Qualifications

PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred.
Experience in a nonprofit or social services environment is a plus.

Gaithersburg, MD (onsite).

Compensation

USD 31 - 41 per hour.
