Human Resources Director
Job Description
Director-level Human Resources leadership at Jordan Young Institute, based on site in Virginia Beach, VA, focusing on recruitment, employee relations, regulatory compliance, and support for clinical and administrative staff within a busy orthopedic practice.
Responsibilities
- Oversees the full employee lifecycle from recruitment through offboarding for both clinical and administrative roles.
- Develops job postings, screens applicants, coordinates interviews, and manages assigned HR workflows; drafts and revises job descriptions as needed.
- Leads new hire onboarding, delivers orientation, and ensures collection of required documentation.
- Coordinates offboarding processes for all separations.
- Acts as primary contact and lead for employee concerns and conflict resolution between staff and management, escalating to the Management Executive as required.
- Assists managers with performance reviews and disciplinary actions.
- Fosters a culture of respect, accountability, and teamwork across the practice.
- Ensures compliance with HR related regulations including HIPAA, OSHA, FMLA, ADA and applicable state and federal labor laws.
- Supports maintenance and updating of HR policies and procedures, employee handbooks, and standard operating procedures.
- Guides the performance review process and coaches managers on goal setting, feedback, and employee development.
- Collaborates with Finance to support payroll processes.
- Assists employees with benefits enrollment, leave management (including FMLA and short-term disability), and HRIS updates.
- Contributes to compensation benchmarking and retention initiatives for clinical talent.
- Develops and delivers needs assessments and training for employees and managers.
- Supports staff development through training plans, continuing education, and career pathing.
- Tracks onboarding progress and ensures ongoing training module completion.
- Maintains accurate employee records, including non-provider credentialing data and workplace incident reports.
- Generates and presents periodic HR reports on staffing, recruiting activity, turnover, time off, compliance audits, and related metrics.
- Leverages technology to improve practice operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Healthcare Administration or related field
- Minimum five years of HR experience, including at least two years in a healthcare or medical practice setting
- Experience supporting physicians, surgeons, and therapy teams
- Strong understanding of employment laws and healthcare HR compliance standards
- Excellent communication, problem-solving and multitasking skills
- Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
- Proficiency with HRIS systems
