Job Description
Human Resources Director role at Oceans Healthcare in DeRidder, LA (onsite) overseeing day-to-day HR operations and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day traditional HR duties, including recruitment and retention activities
- Handle benefits enrollments, orientation, and training coordination
- Support risk management and employee health-related functions
- Accumulate, maintain, and process payroll records; audit and process data to support accurate employee pay preparation
- Assist with defining hospital HR policies in collaboration with management and company guidelines
- Maintain current policies and procedures aligned with Joint Commission, Affirmative Action, Equal Employment Opportunity, applicable Federal and State regulations, Oceans Behavioral Mission, and Performance Improvement Standards
- Interpret hospital policies and regulations for both new and existing employees
- Coordinate employee communications through posted notices, memos, email, flyers, and brochures
- Coordinate recruitment, interviewing, and placement processes including advertisement placement and in-house vacancy postings
- Serve as facilitator and resource for department managers and/or administration during hiring activities
- Complete reference and background checks for prospective candidates in a timely manner
- Set up and maintain systems for recordkeeping and central personnel files
- Maintain files for active and inactive employees and ensure compliance
- Complete required paperwork for new hires, terminations, and personnel changes
- Schedule, coordinate, and implement employee orientation and Oceans Healthcare approved behavioral health de-escalation programs
- Coordinate CPR training, annual orientation for basic competency skills, and other employee training in accordance with facility standards
- Ensure employees remain current on required items including licensure, behavioral health de-escalation programs, CPR, and orientation
- Coordinate the performance appraisal and competency evaluation system
- Notify managers in advance of appraisals due or delinquent
- Assist managers with serious performance problems and disciplinary action
- Respond to requests for HR information and references from outside companies
- Handle unemployment compensation inquiries effectively
- Develop and coordinate programs that support improved employee relations
- Maintain knowledge of HR policy changes, procedures, and current HR-related developments and trends
- Maintain professional growth through organizations, workshops, seminars, and other educational endeavors
- Provide and maintain accurate time and attendance records for facility employees
- Manually enter and process payroll with 100% accuracy efficiently and on time
- Distribute and collect payroll correction forms from each department
- Prepare PTO payouts, payroll adjustments, and supplemental check requests as needed
- Prepare and submit end-of-pay period reports to the Administrator and provide overtime reporting to supervisors as requested
- Act as liaison to coordinate benefit programs and open enrollments; maintain benefit literature and records
- Assist employees with benefits inquiries
- Maintain current Workers’ Compensation records, coordinate claims information, and work with Workers’ Compensation Insurance Company by providing required information
- Submit required information to corporate within departmental deadlines
- Lead engagement and retention strategies aligned with company core beliefs and mission
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned
Requirements
- College degree preferred
- 5+ years of Human Resources experience required
- 2+ years payroll experience preferred
- 2+ years employee relations experience preferred
- Healthcare experience critical to success
- Proficient in computer programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel
- Versatile and flexible; able to operate in stressful situations
- Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage timelines and deadlines
- Ability to work with a variety of people with sensitivity
- Excellent assertive communication skills
- Ability to organize and prioritize a high volume workload
- Works well with others in a stress-oriented position
- Ability to function with minimal supervision and maintain confidentiality
- Ability to interpret and adhere to company policy and procedure requirements and ensure compliance with State and Federal Laws, JCAHO, HCFA, and other regulatory boards as required
- Must successfully complete CPR certification and an Oceans approved behavioral health de-escalation program
