Human Resources Assistant III
Job Description
Join the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department Human Resources Division to support confidential, day-to-day HR operations for a large public safety workforce.
Responsibilities
- Respond to non-technical HR inquiries from employees and outside entities
- Support recruitment efforts, including participation in job fairs to explain career opportunities and application procedures
- Conduct new employee orientations
- Maintain personnel records and support the full employment life cycle with accurate employee data entry and retrieval
- Interpret personnel rules and explain leave and payroll procedures
- Support HR analysts, special committees, and departmental activities
- Coordinate classification studies by explaining the process to employees
- Distribute, collect, and review job analysis questionnaires
- Conduct research, compile data, and assist with preparation of job analysis studies and reports
- Review employment applications and support a Human Resources Analyst for assigned employment areas
- Schedule and coordinate interview and selection proceedings
- Monitor departmental recruitment activities to help ensure deadlines are met and vacancies are filled in a timely manner
- Assist with administering and tracking written and performance examinations, including entering test scores into a database
- Assist with coordination of human resources programs (awards, recreation, incentive program)
- Maintain official personnel files for active and inactive employees
- Assist with preparing documentation for collective bargaining procedures
- Compile personnel files, written opinions, and decisions for disciplinary action procedures
- Collect, edit, and communicate updates to current and new policies and procedures
Requirements
- Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Human Resources/Personnel Management, Organizational Development, Business/Public Administration, Psychology, or a closely related field
- One (1) year of experience providing technical HR support in recruitment, classification and compensation, benefits administration, employee relations, or pensions and investments
- Equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered

Conditions of Employment

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in public sector or government human resources
- Knowledge of SAP or other HRIS systems
- Experience supporting HR operations within a public safety agency (Fire, EMS, Police, or Emergency Management)
- Experience using NeoGov or similar recruitment systems

General Plan Information
- Prince George’s County benefits plan year runs from January 1 to December 31
