Employee Relations Consultant - Human Resources (100% remote)
Job Description
This fully remote Employee Relations Consultant role at the Medical College of Wisconsin focuses on staff relations within the Human Resources department, partnering with advisors and leaders to resolve issues and support engagement.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary employee relations contact for assigned department leaders, faculty, and staff, handling both routine and complex inquiries.
- Apply analytical and problem‑solving skills to advise stakeholders on policies, regulations, best practices, and recommended actions to resolve employee relations matters.
- Facilitate employee relations investigations.
- Support the HR Advisor and Employee Relations team, and the Offices of Faculty Affairs and Equal Access, with project management, data entry, data retrieval, and analysis.
- Assist with reductions in force processes.
- Process unemployment claims.
- Promote employee relations initiatives and related projects across departments.
- Facilitate requests for employment files, leaves of absence, and accommodations.
- Develop internal process documents, leader resources, and guides; research regulatory requirements as needed.
- Receive and intake inbound employee relations, faculty affairs, and Title IX inquiries.
- Participate in investigations including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, Title IX, and conduct concerns.
- Advise leaders and HR Advisors in the planning and initial phases of investigations related to performance and corrective action concerns.
- Draft and review corrective actions.
- Facilitate the staff grievance process.
- Assist with EEOC claims and other organizational charges or complaints.
- Coordinate and monitor activities to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and HR policies.
- Respond to requests for HR policy interpretation from employees.
- Research and compose high‑level correspondence, reports, and presentations.
- Maintain and audit employee relations trackers, including ADA accommodations, grievances, performance management, and remote work requests.
- Support onboarding and offboarding activities, including conditions of employment, content maintenance, interviews, and turnover dashboards.
- Participate in institutional initiatives, committees, and staff trainings related to Employee Relations policy and performance.
- Collaborate with leadership to analyze departmental needs and identify opportunities to enhance talent development, engagement, and retention.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- At least 2 years of experience
- Demonstrated interpersonal and customer service skills
- Working knowledge of MS Office (word processing, spreadsheets, databases)
- Ability to interact effectively with all levels of management and across multiple departments
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and time management abilities; detail-oriented with effective workflow management
- 100% remote role; able to work within MCW registered payroll states: WI, AZ, DE, FL, GA, IL, IN, MD, MI, MN, MO, NC, TN, TX, UT
