Job Description
The City of Carson seeks a detail‑oriented Human Resources Assistant to provide clerical and administrative HR support across recruitment, onboarding, records maintenance, front‑desk duties, and class specification updates. This is a full‑time, non‑exempt role on a 4/10 schedule, onsite in Carson, CA.
Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Human Resources Analyst, this position performs specialized clerical and administrative tasks related to human resources functions and activities. It also serves as a basic information resource on the city’s HR services, practices, and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Maintain ethical standards and confidentiality for all human resources data and information.
- Carry out a range of general and HR related clerical and administrative duties.
- Prepare materials such as correspondence, memoranda, job announcements, forms, employment lists, verifications, charts, and statistics.
- Provide information and assistance in person or by phone to applicants, City personnel, and the public on personnel matters.
- Provide written verification of past or present City employment and unemployment insurance claims.
- Update and maintain manual and computerized personnel records and files containing confidential information.
- Perform front desk HR support as needed.
- Respond to routine salary and benefits survey requests from other agencies, employees, and the public.
- Assist in tracking performance evaluations and step increase dates, processing related paperwork.
- Collect routine salary and benefits information from other agencies.
- Assist in preparing and revising class specifications.
- Support recruitment activities by placing advertisements, coordinating panel interviews, and informing applicants.
- Enter employment applications into applicant tracking systems (NeoGov, iFAS, Tyler Munis) and mail correspondence regarding applications, testing, and interview results.
- Provide staff support to professional and management personnel.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Track and maintain government programs such as EDD, DOT, DMV Pull Notice, and similar oversight.
- Assist with onboarding, hiring, and entry of part‑time employees.
- Fingerprint new hires and volunteers.

Vacancy Information
This is a full‑time, non‑exempt position with a 4/10 workweek, Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., including a 1‑hour unpaid lunch break. Work hours or the schedule may be adjusted based on department needs. Remote or hybrid work options are not available at this time.

Appointment
Offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a pre‑employment physical, background check, and other required tests. All new employees must take a loyalty oath.
