Job Description

The Hawaii State Department of Education seeks a Human Resources Assistant V to screen applications, establish lists of eligibles, and monitor selections. This onsite role in Honolulu may be filled at level IV if recruiting difficulties are encountered.

Salary

USD 3,606 - 3,900 per month

Responsibilities

  • Review applications for designated classes by evaluating each candidate's experience and education against class specifications and applicable standards.
  • Establish lists of eligibles for designated classes by considering a range of qualifying factors for each vacancy.
  • Monitor selections made by line agencies to ensure timeliness and adherence to established rules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Applicants must meet all requirements for the position they are seeking as of the date of application, unless otherwise specified.
  • Education and experience requirements, unless explicitly indicated, may not be earned concurrently.
  • Experience is calculated based on a full-time 40-hour workweek.
  • Part-time experience is pro-rated.
  • Example: Twelve months of experience at 20 hours per week equates to six months of experience, not one year.
  • Hours worked in excess of 40 per week are not credited.
  • Temporary Assignment: Claims of Temporary Assignment (TA) experience used to meet minimum qualifications must be verified and attached to the application using one of the following options:
    • A copy of the applicant’s TA History Report or an equivalent system-generated report;
    • A signed letter from the applicant’s supervisor that includes the applicant’s name, TA job title, TA start and end dates (from mm/yy to mm/yy), specific TA duties performed, and either TA hours per week or total TA hours worked; or
    • Copies of the applicant’s signed SF-10 Forms.

Documents

Attach all relevant supporting documents to your application. Documents attached to applications submitted before November 16, 2023 do not automatically attach or transfer to applications submitted on and after December 16, 2023. All submitted documents become the property of the Hawaii State Department of Education.

  • Making yourself available for temporary positions increases employment possibilities and may lead to permanent opportunities.
  • A temporary employee may become permanent after satisfactory completion of an initial probation period of at least six months.
  • Once classified as temporary, there is eligibility to apply for promotions and transfers to permanent or other temporary roles.
  • Temporary employees may enjoy rights and benefits comparable to permanent employees, with the exception of return rights and placement rights tied to a reduction-in-force.
