Human Resources Generalist
Job Description
The HR Generalist role at Fresh Express Inc in Columbia, SC onsite reports to the site HR Manager and covers a broad range of employee relations, policy interpretation, leaves of absence, and workplace accommodations.
Responsibilities
- Provide end-to-end employee relations guidance, partnering with managers on performance management, behavioral coaching, misconduct handling, disciplinary actions, and terminations
- Serve as a subject matter expert on company policies, procedures, exceptions, best practices, and performance management processes
- Identify ineffective or inconsistent HR practices through monitoring and investigations, and recommend remediation
- Maintain current knowledge of legal requirements impacting day-to-day management of employees to reduce risk and ensure regulatory compliance
- Ensure adherence to Federal, State, and local employment laws
- Coordinate all Leaves of Absence claims, applying processes and regulations accurately and in a timely manner, including FMLA, ADA, STD, and LTD
- Establish claims, track and code documentation and time in accordance with internal processes; prepare and send LOA communications; analyze claims to determine eligibility and certification per regulations
- Provide prompt and equitable resolution of requests, complaints, and inquiries from employees and managers regarding ADA compliance
- Maintain records of disability and accommodation issues and resolutions through the interactive process
- Represent the employer in unemployment hearings
- Serve as the main point of contact for benefits and payroll questions; support recruitment as needed
- Continuously strive to improve operations, streamline processes, and collaborate as a team to deliver exceptional HR support
- Maintain HRIS and employee records, and compile reports from HR data as needed
- Provide strong support to the HR Manager and act as a trusted partner to the HR team
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as an HR Generalist, with emphasis on FMLA administration
- Strong working knowledge of employment laws, HR principles, and HR practices
- Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; prior experience with an HRIS; ability to learn new software systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication, strong organizational, follow-up, and multitasking skills with meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment
- Team-oriented attitude with a commitment to customer service and the flexibility to support all areas of the HR department
- Education: Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in HR management
