Job Description
Based in Independence, Kansas, this on-site Human Resources Generalist role partners with the business to align people-related initiatives with objectives and oversees HR operations across recruiting, policy and compliance, employee and labor relations, compensation, benefits, HRIS, performance management, and learning and development.
Responsibilities
- Advise on HR policies and programs to align with business goals and mitigate legal and internal policy violations; develop, update, and communicate policies to staff.
- Participate in internal and external audits.
- Conduct regular audits and assessments.
- Identify and implement HR best practices suitable for the business group.
- Maintain compliance records, perform research, and prepare reports.
- Coordinate employee and labor relations programs covering onboarding, EEO, counseling, performance improvement plans, separations, and investigations of discrimination or harassment.
- Source and coordinate open roles, including securing approvals, posting requisitions, talent sourcing, assisting in selection, offers, background checks, and onboarding activities.
- Manage outreach to veterans and disabled candidates and support Affirmative Action planning.
- Ensure E-Verify and I-9 compliance.
- Advise employees on policies, conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and grievances.
- Investigate and resolve discrimination complaints.
- Audit internal employee and labor practices to identify corrective actions.
- Identify major trends and underlying employee and labor relations issues.
- Participate in annual goal setting and performance review activities.
- Assist managers with interpreting wage and salary policies and procedures.
- Develop and update job descriptions.
- Ensure proper FLSA designations.
- Prepare wage and salary plans and reports as requested.
- Collaborate with benefits and payroll to investigate and resolve enrollment and payroll contribution issues.
- Lead benefits overview discussions for new hires and conduct annual open enrollment as needed.
- Create and maintain employee documentation, correspondence, and records.
- Establish procedures to standardize and record employment actions and mass events in a timely and accurate manner.
- Run routine and ad hoc queries and reports.
- Develop HR metrics and analytics.
- Manage a full requisition load while serving as a dual function for talent acquisition and day-to-day HR support.
- Lead end-to-end recruitment from posting to offer, ensuring a seamless candidate experience while upholding compliance and HR operations.
- Drive community outreach and talent pipeline development through university partnerships, local schools, and state agencies, maintaining a consistent HR presence for the business.
- Partner with hiring managers on talent acquisition strategy and workforce planning; support performance management, policy administration, and HRIS management.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or a related discipline; experience may substitute education where permissible.
- Four years of HR experience supporting 150+ employees across multiple functional areas.
- Two years of recruiting experience, including sourcing, interviewing, selection, offers, and onboarding new employees.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, HRIS, benefits enrollment systems, applicant tracking systems, and timekeeping/payroll platforms.
- Knowledge of federal, state, local, and contractor employment laws and compliance programs; experience researching and implementing HR best practices.
- Thorough understanding of employment laws and regulations, including ADA, FMLA, FLSA, EEO, and OSHA.
- Excellent attention to detail plus strong organizational and time management skills.
- Strong research and problem-solving abilities; able to analyze issues and apply HR best practices.
- Effective communication and customer service skills with the ability to build relationships across organizational levels.
- Ability to manage a high volume of assignments with varying complexity in a fast-paced environment with integrity and professionalism.
- Adaptability to changing organizational and departmental needs.
- Resourceful with sound judgement and knowing when to escalate due to risk or complexity.
- High sensitivity to confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced setting.
