Job Description

Fortune Bay Resort Casino is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to support day-to-day HR operations at its onsite location in Tower, MN. In this role, you will help ensure timely progress across personnel, payroll, training, benefits, recruitment, and HR administration while contributing to employee engagement and maintaining strict confidentiality.

Role overview

The HR Generalist is a key support position within the Human Resources department. The role assists with tasks from multiple HR functions, supports cross-training needs, helps complete special projects, and contributes to overall HR goals. Success includes accurate and on-time completion of daily responsibilities, clear communication with team members and leadership, adaptability across HR areas, and consistent application of HR policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate employee feedback initiatives, including scheduling exit interviews, surveys, suggestion programs, focus groups, and other input channels to support KPI development and trend identification related to morale, work environment, supervision, efficiency, motivation, and retention.
  • Work with the HR Administrative Assistant/HR Coordinator and collaborate with the Personnel Manager to analyze and summarize findings, trends, and recommendations.
  • Collect, review, and collaborate with leadership to capture and communicate responses to monthly employee suggestions.
  • Assist the Personnel Manager with Minnesota Unemployment by gathering information, scanning, filing, maintaining, and tracking unemployment paperwork.
  • Oversee employee resource information, including EAP, energy assistance, employee discounts, Bois Forte benefits, shoe discounts, LifeMart Discounts, and other fringe benefits.
  • Provide daily recruitment and onboarding support, especially during peak seasons, including phone calls, reference and background checks, interview scheduling, organizing paperwork, employee photos, and updating documents on ADP.
  • Coordinate with the Personnel Manager and Recruitment and Onboarding Specialist to outline salary applicants for hiring manager presentation, schedule salary interviews, and prepare interview packets.
  • Partner with the Recruitment and Onboarding Specialist and Marketing to support recruitment campaign components such as short videos, events, and job fair attendance.
  • Update job descriptions as directed.
  • Assist the Payroll/HRIS Manager by entering tips and maintaining job and wage changes daily.
  • Partner with the Bois Forte Tribal Government, 477 program, and other entities to improve access to relevant resources.
  • Support employees with payroll deductions and payroll deposits questions.
  • Assist with logistics for in-house employee trainings and programs to support performance and productivity needs, in cooperation with the Training Manager and Personnel Manager.
  • Monitor, track, and report on training completion.
  • Provide clarification and support to employees regarding personnel policies and expectations.
  • Aggregate data and create charts and visuals as needed.
  • Draft administrative correspondence, including researching and gathering content for Fortune Bay’s monthly newsletter on a topic selected by the HR team.
  • Assist with filing progressive discipline and purging physical and digital files in accordance with file retention standards.
  • Attend weekly HR meetings to share insights, suggestions, and plans.
  • Maintain awareness of employment and labor laws including FLSA, FMLA, Title VII, and ADA.
  • Assist with employee event logistics (for example: holiday party, summer picnic, appreciation meals, and employee fun days).
  • Support scheduling employee recognition programs and incentives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, with ability to write and communicate effectively.
  • Two years of Human Resources or related cumulative experience across multiple areas including administrative, interpersonal, data presentation, training, risk management, and benefits-related roles.
  • Strong computer background and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint, with ability to gather and record data and create reports and graphs.
  • Ability to administer a broad range of tasks, including directing concerns to appropriate staff, objectively synthesizing data, active listening, and disseminating information.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to listen to and respond to team member issues.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail and the ability to set and meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making, with responsibility and reliability.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Team-oriented and cooperative, willing to assist with additional HR responsibilities as time permits.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive data.
  • Two (2) year associate’s degree in human resources or related field.
  • Relevant training/certifications/credentials (statistics, conflict resolution, employment law, etc.).
  • Background and knowledge of HR management principles and practices.
  • General knowledge of employment laws and governmental compliance requirements.
  • High level proficiency with Excel and ADP.
  • Experience in the hospitality and/or gaming industry.
  • Ability to sit and perform repetitive motions for extended periods at a computer workstation.
  • Ability to walk, bend, and lift light loads.
  • Ability to drive with a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to tolerate various scents, noises, and bright lights.

  • Pay: USD 22 - 27 per hour
