Job Description

Tri-Area Community Health is offering an hybrid Human Resources Generalist role based in Laurel Fork, VA. This position supports a dependable HR foundation across the organization with opportunities to grow through a comprehensive benefits package and professional development assistance.

In this role, you will work alongside the Human Resources Director to deliver confidential, compliant HR support, manage key HR priorities independently, and help strengthen employee experiences through consistent policy application and well-documented HR practices.

What you’ll do

  • Guide employees and managers on HR policies, employee relations, performance management, and workplace concerns.
  • Independently evaluate HR matters, recommend next steps, and escalate complex or high-risk issues when needed.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records in UKG.
  • Use UKG to support HR processes, reporting, data management, onboarding, and employee lifecycle activities.
  • Support recruitment activities including interviewing, selection, onboarding, and offboarding.
  • Assist with benefits administration, leave management, and related employee communications.
  • Support compliance with applicable employment laws, regulations, organizational policies, and documentation requirements.
  • Support performance-management processes, including guidance to managers on documentation and corrective action.
  • Prepare HR reports, review HR data, and identify trends or process improvement opportunities.
  • Help develop, communicate, and support consistent application of HR policies and procedures.
  • Manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines with limited day-to-day supervision.
  • Protect confidential, sensitive, and personally identifiable information at all times.

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, organizational leadership, or a closely related field (or an equivalent combination of relevant education and progressively responsible HR experience).
  • At least 3 years of progressively responsible, broad-based HR experience, including independently advising employees or managers and applying HR policies and employment requirements.
  • Hands-on HRIS experience (familiarity alone is not sufficient).
  • Current SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, or comparable professional HR certification, or the ability and commitment to obtain an approved professional HR certification within 12 months of hire at your own expense.
  • Working knowledge of HR practices and applicable employment laws.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and make well-supported recommendations.
  • Proven discretion with confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Strong written, verbal, organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy and timely follow-through.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience using UKG Ready at a manager or administrator level.
  • Experience working in healthcare, a community health center, or another highly regulated environment.
  • Experience supporting employees and managers across multiple locations.
  • Experience generating HRIS reports, improving HR workflows, or supporting UKG configuration and implementation projects.
  • Advanced HR certification, such as SHRM-SCP or SPHR.
  • General knowledge of federal and state (VA) payroll law.

Work arrangement and schedule

  • Hybrid role with a home location in the corporate office in Laurel Fork.
  • Ability to work onsite at Tri-Area Community Health locations as business needs require (at least one day each week).
  • Hybrid schedule is based on organizational needs and successful performance and does not eliminate onsite responsibilities.
  • Alternate schedule options available following training.

Role details

  • Employment status: Full time, Salary Exempt (40 hours a week)
  • Compensation: $21 - $28/hour
