Human Resources Specialist
Job Description
Human Resources Specialist role supporting recruiting, benefits administration, onboarding, Workers Compensation, and FMLA for Sheridan County School District 2.
Responsibilities
- Serve as system administrator for the district’s recruiting and hiring software and record-keeping tools.
- Maintain the hiring system, including posting job announcements, updating forms, and managing job templates and system correspondence.
- Update employee accounts and associated access; compile reports and make improvement recommendations.
- Support hiring managers by assisting with recruitment strategies and ensuring correct use of district hiring policies, procedures, and applicant tracking tools.
- Process new hires, transfers, and re-assignments, including pre-employment screenings and required paperwork.
- Review official transcripts, VOS forms, and PTSB certifications for initial placement on the certified salary schedule.
- Enter data into electronic systems and produce reports related to benefit enrollments and employment status changes.
- Assist new employees with understanding and enrolling in district benefits within required timelines.
- Coordinate annual open enrollment periods; support monthly and annual Affordable Care Act compliance tasks.
- Handle general inquiries about employee benefits and HR procedures, providing responsive, equitable, and courteous customer service.
- Ensure proper and valid certification for staff during new hire processing.
- Review injury reports for completeness and guideline compliance; identify opportunities to improve service delivery methods and procedures.
- Receive, review, and submit Workers’ Compensation incident reports to the state; assist staff with Workers’ Compensation inquiries.
- Report suspicious, questionable, or unusual incidents to the Human Resources Director.
- Track FMLA requests, maintain electronic medical files, and monitor absences monthly to help ensure timely notifications and protection of FMLA rights.
- Review, track, and process lane change requests for certified staff.
- Assign contracts, work agreements, and extra duty contracts to employees following School Board approval.
- Compile and maintain data for the Wyoming Department of Education, including 602 reporting.
- May support processing of Substitute Teachers, Student Teachers, Volunteers, and Contractors, including interview scheduling and paperwork processing.
- Act as a liaison to district staff, students, and the community.
- Maintain high levels of confidentiality regarding applicants, employees, and students.
- Participate in assigned special projects and perform other similar duties as required.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field.
- Experience performing HR-related job functions is preferred.
- PHR or SHRM-CP certification is desirable but not required.

Additional Wage Placement Information
- Placement is based solely on years of job-related experience (steps 1 through 7).
- Full-time school district experience: 1 year job-related experience = 1 step (up to step 7).
- School district substitute & non-school district experience: 3 years job-related experience = 1 step (up to step 7).
- Placement beyond step 7 requires approval from the Superintendent.
- Board approval may move eligible staff 1 step annually except in years with a Board-set wage freeze.

- Wyoming State Statute requires employees initially hired on or after July 1, 1996 to pass a criminal background check with the DCI (Department of Criminal Investigation).
