Rancho Gordo is building a Human Resources function that supports a respectful, compliant, and engaged workplace, and this newly created Human Resources Generalist role will help shape how that shows up day to day. You will work onsite in Napa with the team and serve as a trusted resource for employees and managers.
Location: Napa, CA (onsite)
Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
Schedule: Minimum 20 hours per week onsite at the Napa warehouse, with flexibility in scheduling. This position may be part-time or full-time depending on experience and availability.
What youβll do
The Human Resources Generalist manages core day-to-day HR functions across recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, compliance, payroll, benefits, leave, and workplace safety. This role coordinates programs and communications that help keep hiring, training, and employment processes running smoothly and accurately.
- Coordinate full-cycle recruitment with department managers, including creating and maintaining job descriptions, posting openings, managing candidate communications, and supporting interviews and selection.
- Prepare offer letters and employment documentation.
- Lead new hire onboarding and orientation, including required new hire training such as harassment prevention, workplace violence prevention, Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), safety training, and food safety certifications.
- Serve as the primary HR contact for employee questions and concerns.
- Partner with managers on performance management, disciplinary actions, employee reviews, and employee development.
- Conduct or support workplace investigations and conflict resolution.
- Foster a respectful, inclusive, and positive work environment while ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable California and federal employment laws.
- Administer leaves of absence, including CFRA, FMLA, workers' compensation, and personal leaves.
- Maintain employee records and HR documentation, and track required employee training to ensure timely completion of compliance requirements.
- Coordinate workplace safety programs with the Safety Manager, including safety meetings, training, and reporting workplace injuries.
- Support care coordination, return-to-work programs, light-duty assignments, and lost-time cases.
- Process bi-weekly payroll accurately and on schedule, including coordinating timecard approvals and processing paid time off requests while maintaining attendance records.
- Assist with benefit enrollment and answer questions about available benefit programs.
- Provide verbal and written interpretation and translation between English and Spanish to support effective communication across the organization.
What you bring
- 3β5 years of experience as a Human Resources Generalist or in a similar HR role.
- Strong working knowledge of California and federal employment laws.
- Experience administering CFRA, FMLA, workers' compensation, and other employee leave programs.
- Experience processing payroll and administering employee benefits.
- Bachelorβs degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent) preferred.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (written and verbal) required.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HRIS/payroll systems.
