Senior Human Resources Generalist
Job Description
The Senior Human Resources Generalist serves as a key leader for the HR function at the Watsonville, CA site, with responsibility for workforce planning and recruiting, compliance, employee relations, and day-to-day partnership in a seasonal operating environment. The role directly supports site leadership and manages one direct report, an HR Assistant.
Role Overview
In this position, you will align HR strategies with business goals, provide guidance to managers on performance and development, and help ensure accurate and compliant HR operations across hiring, investigations, leave administration, and employee records. The role also includes maintaining audit-ready documentation and supporting a safe work environment through consistent adherence to safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with site leadership to align HR strategies with business goals.
- Coach managers on leadership, performance management, and employee development.
- Identify training needs and support leadership development initiatives.
- Oversee seasonal recruiting efforts and support peak season staffing.
- Lead workforce planning for peak seasons.
- Conduct investigations and support employee relations issues through resolution.
- Advise on disciplinary actions, terminations, and performance improvement plans.
- Support payroll to ensure accurate timekeeping and pay practices.
- Manage and track FMLA and other employee leave programs.
- Assist with data entry and maintain employee records on HRMS.
- Support HR and company event planning activities.
- Participate in Lean projects and activities.
- Maintain audit-ready HR documentation and records.
- Promote a safe work environment by adhering to all safety protocols and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws.
- Ensure compliance of I-9 and E-Verify processes at the PPL site.
Required Qualifications
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize effectively.
- Effective communicator with the ability to influence and partner across all levels.
- Experience with I-9 and E-Verify processes and requirements.
- Strong knowledge of HR practices, California employment law, and compliance.
- High level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential information.
- Strong problem-solving skills focused on practical, business-driven solutions.
- Ability to coach and support leaders on employee relations and performance.
- 5 to 7 years of Human Resources experience in a fast-paced environment.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and HRIS systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
