Motion Picture Industry Pension & Health Plans offers a hands-on, collaborative role for a Human Resources and Labor Relations Manager, anchored onsite in Studio City, CA. This position supports employee relations, performance management, training and development, analytics and reporting, and related HR initiatives, partnering across the HR function. Responsibilities
- Manage routine labor relations and HR inquiries about policies, procedures, and bargaining agreements, referring complex matters to management as needed.
- Serve as the initial contact for intake and assessment of employee complaints.
- Conduct initial interviews for employee relations matters such as harassment or workplace concerns and determine when additional investigation is required.
- Co-manage performance management activities, including annual evaluations and corrective actions.
- Maintain current knowledge of laws and regulations related to EEO, collective bargaining, unions, labor relations, and HR.
- Assist in preparing plans, policies, documents, and reports such as EEO-1, organizational charts, labor agreements, and employee handbooks.
- Co-develop and facilitate leadership and management training tracks.
- Collect information to assess cost and policy implications of negotiations and disputes, including proposals, pay scales, benefits, and working conditions.
- Conduct surveys and research related to HR policies, compensation, and labor negotiations; compile and report results.
- Assist in preparing documents and records required for contract negotiations and communications with employee and labor organizations.
- Apply compensation best practices to benchmark ranges, balancing external market pricing and internal equity while ensuring FLSA compliance.
- Create and maintain HR reports for data analysis, reporting, and decision making.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with HR Generalists and Talent Acquisition Specialists.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Business, Organizational Development, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 5+ years as an HR/Labor Relations Manager, senior HR generalist, or HR business partner in California; people management experience required.
- Thorough understanding of state and federal employment laws and guidelines related to HR, labor relations, contract negotiations, and leave management (including FMLA, CFRA, FLSA, ADA, OSHA, and EEOC).
- HR certification such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR preferred.
- Experience developing management training content using instructional design tools and delivering engaging adult learning experiences.
- Strong technical skills with HR analytics, HRIS, and ATS systems; familiarity with Ceridian Dayforce and Salary.com is preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, and grammar skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution abilities.
- Experience supervising and developing HR staff.
- Exceptional time management and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Proficiency with the MS Office suite; intermediate Excel, PowerPoint, and Word skills required (advanced a plus).
- Ability to proactively identify issues and propose resolution plans.
- High level of customer service, diplomacy, and the ability to maintain professional relationships with MPI and third-party vendors.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
