Job Description

The Assistant Director of Human Resources role at Silver Lake Hospital in Newark, NJ oversees payroll, benefits, unemployment claims, employee relations, investigations, compliance, and HR operations, with a salary range of USD 70,000 to 90,000 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee payroll processing and benefits administration
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll and benefits inquiries
  • Manage unemployment claims and coordinate responses to state agencies
  • Conduct confidential workplace investigations
  • Address employee concerns and disputes

  • Maintain HRIS records and personnel files
  • Interpret policies, drive compliance initiatives, and generate reporting
  • Lead audits and contribute to HR projects supporting operations and strategy

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • Five or more years of HR experience in a healthcare setting
  • Experience with payroll processing and benefits administration
  • Experience managing unemployment claims and employee relations matters
  • Experience conducting workplace investigations and onboarding employees
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws including FMLA, ADA, FLSA, EEO, and unemployment regulations
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Proficiency with HRIS and payroll systems, as well as Microsoft Office Suite
  • Sound judgment and ethical decision-making
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills
  • High level of professionalism and discretion

Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Human Resources administers payroll and employee benefits, ensures compliance with applicable laws, and serves as the primary contact for payroll and benefits inquiries.
