Director, US People Operations
Job Description
KIND supports employee wellbeing with Mindfulness and Wellness Trainings, Wellness Platforms, Employee Assistance and Resilience Programs, Time Away, and Office Wellness Activities. This US People Operations role partners closely with HR and business leaders to strengthen people practices and keep employee experiences running smoothly across the employee lifecycle.
Compensation: USD 83,464 - 104,330 per year. Location: Remote (based anywhere in the U.S.). Reporting to: Vice President, Global Human Resources.
What you’ll do
- Lead, mentor, and develop the US People Operations team, including Senior HR Operations Specialists, HR Specialists, and HR Coordinators, fostering a high-performance, collaborative, service-oriented culture.
- Serve as a trusted advisor and thought partner for people matters, building strong relationships with leaders and staff.
- Identify HR needs across US business units and align global HR initiatives to regional goals and people priorities.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of US HR strategies and initiatives with the Chief People Officer, VP, Global Human Resources, and HR leadership.
- Bring a people lens to business planning discussions with business leaders.
- Advise managers and employees on employee relations and HR matters across the US, including counseling, communication, and conflict resolution forums.
- Act as the primary escalation point for day-to-day employee relations and HR issues.
- Lead employee relations investigations, mediation, and resolution, escalating to the Vice President, Global Human Resources as appropriate.
- Own compliance with US federal, state, and local labor and employment law, including EEO, ADA, FMLA, DOL requirements, OSHA, and applicable state-specific mandates.
- Lead compliance audits, regulatory reporting, and policy updates across all US jurisdictions where KIND operates.
- Manage union relations as the primary contact for union communications, negotiations, and grievance processes.
- Lead end-to-end US benefits governance, compliance, and vendor management, including annual renewals, open enrollment, plan design reviews, employee communications, and regulatory plan documentation for medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and retirement plans.
- Ensure leave compliance, including FMLA, PDL, CFRA, ADA, and other applicable federal and state leave laws.
- Oversee core employee lifecycle processes from onboarding and status changes through offboarding, ensuring operational efficiency, data accuracy, and SOP compliance.
- Direct US payroll data workflows and HRIS data integrity in partnership with Finance, ensuring accurate, timely processing and resolution of payroll and benefits escalations.
- Develop, analyze, and present key HR metrics and dashboards (headcount, turnover, leave utilization, and ER trends) to inform leadership strategy and workforce planning.
- Maintain and evolve US HR policies, SOPs, and the Employee Handbook, ensuring alignment with cultural values and legal compliance.
- Support US compensation administration and departmental budget management in partnership with HR leadership.
What you’ll bring
- Undergraduate degree required; graduate degree in human resources, organizational psychology, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
- Fluency in English.
- Minimum 8 years of progressive HR Operations experience, including benefits administration and employee relations.
- Proven expertise in employee relations, including complex investigations and advising managers on performance management and disciplinary matters.
- 3+ years of supervisory experience.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. employment law and HR best practices.
- Union experience managing relationships, negotiations, and grievance processes preferred.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with strong cross-cultural rapport building.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team- and matrix-oriented environment.
- Strong organization and detail orientation, with ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline-oriented setting.
- Data-driven approach using analytics to guide decisions aligned to goals and initiatives.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (including Teams and Excel).
- Commitment to wellbeing and work-home life balance.
- Experience working and communicating in a remote environment preferred.
- Ability to occasionally travel as needed.
