Job Description

In Travis County Sheriff’s Office HR operations, the Human Resources Assistant II role sits at the intersection of applicant intake and operational support, providing a reliable point of contact for applicants while aiding HR management across divisions. This onsite position handles everything from processing applications and coordinating testing to maintaining personnel and payroll records, and assisting with payroll, policy communications, and Open Records/TCOLE documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Human Resources, Recruiting, and Background Investigators to process applicants and ensure accuracy, timeliness, and thoroughness in hiring.
  • Provide coverage for HR Assistant II duties and front lobby/reception as needed.
  • Assist with coordination and administration of applicant testing, including support at off-site locations.
  • Coordinate administrative processing of new hires and terminations.
  • Process applications, pre-employment screening, testing, scheduling interviews, meetings, and training sessions; conduct employment verifications; respond to applicants and departments on HR inquiries.
  • Prepare job postings and job descriptions as required.
  • Log data and assist with maintaining personnel and payroll files and related records.
  • Assist in administering and communicating policies and procedures.
  • Respond to requests from employees, applicants, the public, management, and other County departments regarding health insurance, billings, employee benefits enrollment, hiring procedures, job requirements, and training.
  • Process required forms and provide recommendations concerning procedures and personnel issues as needed.
  • Prepare, process, and monitor actions in SAP and coordinate with payroll personnel to ensure compliance with state and federal laws and County policies.
  • Process and log personnel actions including performance appraisal forms and timesheet movements in SAP.
  • Assist with TCOLE documentation.
  • Assist in evaluating jobs, preparing job descriptions, conducting internal and external surveys to compile information, and analyzing data for reports and presentations.
  • Draft, develop, and process memos, letters, reports, newsletters, forms, and other documents.
  • Assist with payroll functions and maintaining training records and data.
  • Research and produce HR related statistical reports and presentations as required.
  • Advise management and employees on HR issues and Sheriff's Office Policy.
  • Assist with collecting information for Open Records Requests.
  • Assist with collecting information for TCOLE Secure Share.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to work under moderate supervision and follow detailed instructions.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding HR-related issues.
  • Proficiency with SAP for processing actions and coordinating with payroll.
  • Familiarity with pre-employment processes including applications, testing, pre-employment screening, scheduling interviews, and employment verifications.
  • Ability to pass criminal, credit, driving, education, and employment background checks.
  • Ability to pass drug and alcohol tests.
  • Willingness to perform in-person work at the Austin, TX location.

Supplemental Information

  • Physical requirements include the ability to lift/carry up to 20-50 pounds occasionally, visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination, and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer and office equipment.
  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, repetitive motion, reaching, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing, pulling, balancing, client/customer contact, and squatting to perform essential functions.
  • Travis County employees play an important role in business continuity and may be assigned to continuity efforts outside of normal job functions.

Work Hours

Generally 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Some weekend work may be required.
