Human Resources Generalist
Job Description
Clayton Homes is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to oversee HR and TMX programs at the Phil Campbell, Alabama site. This onsite role centers on recruiting, onboarding, job skills training, engagement and retention, performance management, employment practices, benefits and salary administration, and payroll and attendance, with a focus on planning leadership development for managers and team leaders to foster a world-class team member experience. The position partners with plant leadership to shape HR initiatives and ensures compliance with applicable laws and policies.
Responsibilities
- Assess the effectiveness of HR practices and drive improvements aligned with the vision of a world-class team member experience.
- Analyze key performance indicators to identify turnover trends and root causes; present findings and recommendations to facility leadership (GM/PM, Ops or Production Manager).
- Support the leadership team in defining its vision for the World Class Team Member Experience; facilitate goal setting and action planning to align HR programs with that vision.
- Oversee benefits, salary administration, and payroll/attendance processes.
- Collaborate with the HRBP on pay-related issues by position or market.
- Lead recruiting by managing screening, interviewing, and onboarding; anticipate staffing needs through close collaboration with plant leadership and ensure compliance with hiring regulations and policies.
- Ensure new hires are welcomed and integrated; manage orientation and referral programs, serve as liaison between team members and team leaders, and resolve identified issues.
- Partner with People Leaders to ensure proper training on job skills, safety protocols, LEAN structure, housekeeping standards, and site-specific programs.
- Train and coach People Leaders on setting clear expectations, recognizing performance, and addressing non-performance.
- Facilitate leadership development workshops for Team Leaders and assess leadership performance, advising the GM/PM on development plans.
- Lead training on interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance evaluations, harassment, and related topics.
- Consult with the HRBP to ensure policies comply with federal and state law and identify legal requirements and reporting regulations affecting HR functions.
- Investigate and guide management in resolving employee relations issues and ensure processes for conducting performance evaluations are in place.
- Aid, train, and coach leaders on two-way conversations, actionable feedback, and building trust with team members.
- Serve as the facility point of contact for initiatives such as VTO and Wellbeing programs.
Requirements
- 4-year degree in Human Resources, Business/Management, or Organizational Development.
- Minimum 3 years of progressive leadership experience in HR or Training/OD roles.
- Knowledge in HR, organizational planning, recruitment, organizational development, employee relations, safety, engagement, and development.
- Strong written and spoken communication skills.
- Outstanding interpersonal relationship-building and coaching abilities.
- Previous manufacturing experience is preferred.
