Human Resources Generalist
Job Description
Fulton County, GA is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to support the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office with professional HR work that helps maintain effective personnel management and compliance with employment laws. This onsite role focuses on recruitment and onboarding, employee relations support, benefits and leave administration, HRIS support, training coordination, and careful handling of sensitive information.
What You’ll Do
- Coordinate full-cycle recruitment for sworn, detention, and civilian positions, including job postings, applicant screening, interview scheduling, and collecting background documentation.
- Maintain applicant tracking systems and provide timely communication to candidates.
- Support recruitment efforts through job fairs, community outreach, and departmental hiring initiatives.
- Facilitate new-hire onboarding by ensuring required documentation, credential verification, and policy acknowledgments are completed.
- Conduct HR orientation sessions covering benefits, workplace expectations, ethics, and Sheriff’s Office procedures.
- Assist supervisors with corrective action processes, documentation, and performance improvement plans.
- Ensure confidentiality and adherence to legal and departmental standards while supporting employee engagement through communication, recognition programs, and wellness initiatives.
- Help ensure HR practices align with federal and state employment laws and local civil service rules, including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEOC, and HIPAA.
- Maintain knowledge of law-enforcement-specific regulations, including POST standards, detention staffing mandates, and background check requirements.
- Support policy updates by distributing materials and facilitating related training on HR and workplace conduct.
- Keep accurate, secure personnel files in line with retention laws and agency policy.
- Guide employees through benefits enrollment and qualifying life events, including benefits questions and plan changes.
- Manage leave programs such as FMLA, military leave, workers’ compensation, and workplace accommodations, coordinating with risk management on injury claims and return-to-work processes.
- Assist with payroll processing, timekeeping audits, and corrections for sworn and professional staff.
- Maintain employee data in HRIS systems, ensuring accuracy for job classifications, pay grades, certifications, and assignments.
- Coordinate employee training related to HR topics, support career development initiatives, and prepare HR reports, metrics, and dashboards.
- Assist with audits, accreditation processes, and external or command data requests, including research and routine data analysis.
- Provide customer service in person, by telephone, or by email, including information and assistance related to department services, forms, routine questions, complaints, and requests for service.
Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, or related field (preferred).
- 2–5 years of professional HR experience; public safety or government experience strongly preferred.
- Professional HR Certification strongly preferred.
- Experience with recruitment, employee development, and HR compliance required.
- Strong understanding of employment law, HR best practices, and public-sector HR processes.
- Familiarity with public safety hiring standards, POST requirements, and background investigations.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive matters with discretion.
- Proficiency in HRIS systems, Microsoft Office, and applicant tracking platforms.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Legal and Screening Requirements
- All applicants must agree to and successfully pass a background investigation, drug screening, and polygraph to be considered for employment with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office.
- If selected, an official, accredited college transcript is required at time of employment for all degrees or course work used to qualify for the position.
Working Conditions
- Work is primarily performed in an office setting within the Sheriff’s Office.
- Occasional travel to training sites, job fairs, or other county facilities.
- May involve handling stressful or sensitive situations.

Salary: USD 58,457 to 108,731 per year. Location: Georgia (onsite).
