Job Description

Join BILL WILSON CENTER as a Human Resources Generalist and help strengthen a people-first culture across the agency. This onsite role in Santa Clara, CA builds a close bridge between HR and Bill Wilson Center programs, supporting employees through key moments like benefits, leave, performance, and compliance. You will also play an active role in promoting belonging and engagement through day-to-day actions.

Compensation: USD 75,000 - 85,000 per year. Reporting to: Chief People & Culture Officer.

What you will do

  • Be a values-driven presence by enhancing agency culture through a belonging lens.
  • Serve as a main point of contact for employee questions related to policies and best practices.
  • Support a positive work environment that promotes employee engagement.
  • Partner with leadership to address employee relations issues and interpersonal conflicts.
  • Coordinate investigatory steps, working with legal counsel, sharing recommendations with the Chief People & Culture Officer, and drafting investigation closed letters based on provided guidance.
  • Administer employee benefits including health insurance, retirement plans, and other voluntary benefits.
  • Lead open enrollment, including benefits fairs and vaccination clinics.
  • Administer leave of absence processes such as FMLA, PFL, and CFRA, along with worker’s compensation and work accommodation requests.
  • Maintain accurate leave records.
  • Coordinate talent management activities including periodic performance evaluations, objectives & key results, and professional development initiatives.
  • Support talent acquisition through career fairs, recruitment, hiring, and onboarding, including building a strong new hire experience.
  • Coordinate with vendors and providers to resolve benefits-related issues.
  • Analyze compensation data to support internal equity and compliance with pay equity laws, providing recommendations as needed.
  • Plan and implement initiatives to enhance employee engagement, recognition, and retention.
  • Promote and attend agency events and support training initiatives tied to compliance, safety, and belonging.
  • Participate in periodic reporting, including dashboards, regulatory audits, and labor compliance reporting.
  • Conduct exit interviews and provide trend analysis and insights to senior management related to retention strategies.
  • Lead HR projects by clarifying objectives, establishing timelines, communicating with stakeholders, and meeting expected outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, safety regulations, and industry standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or a related field.
  • HR certifications are a plus.
  • At least 2 years of HR Generalist experience.
  • Experience using HRIS/ATS systems is required.
  • Paycom is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and/or GoogleSuite.
  • Knowledge of HR practices including federal, state, and local laws.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse staff required.
  • Strong attention to detail plus written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfort presenting information in a group setting.
  • Ability to balance multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines.
  • Strong discretion and confidentiality with professional conduct at all times.
  • Acts as a role model within the agency.

Work setup and requirements

  • Most duties are performed in an administrative setting.
  • Must have a valid California Driver’s License, reliable transportation, and be able to drive between agency worksites on an as-needed basis.
  • Physical demands include the ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, remain in motion and/or stationary for prolonged periods, and use hands to type and communicate (including by telephone).
