Job Description

Human Resources Generalist role supporting HR operations across The Culinary Institute of America’s California campuses.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Associate Director – Human Resources, oversee day-to-day administration, operations, and activities of the Human Resources function for the California Campus
  • Ensure HR meets business cycle needs of the operation
  • Serve as the main point of contact for employee relations for non-union California Campus employees
  • Manage employee disciplinary processes, ensuring progressive discipline is documented and maintained in employee files
  • Conduct investigations as required regarding employee conduct and behavior
  • Consult with the Associate Director – Human Resources and/or Associate Director – Employee & Labor Relations to determine next steps and resolution
  • Support departments in establishing performance improvement plans for under-performing employees
  • Administer for cause termination processes in compliance with CIA standards
  • Operate in full compliance with Title IX policies and procedures of the Institute
  • Guide management through the progressive discipline process and provide counseling as appropriate
  • Ensure performance issues are promptly addressed and properly documented
  • Partner with the Recruitment Team to ensure open positions are staffed and that hiring and onboarding are executed accurately, professionally, and efficiently
  • Administer HR processes, including annual performance appraisal and increase cycles, annual goal and objective setting, wellness or employee events, and annual compliance notices
  • Advise department management on compensation practices, pay decisions, policy interpretation, and performance management
  • Communicate information to employees regarding administration of benefits, compensation, leave of absence, and workers compensation programs as required
  • Deliver training programs through in-person and online classes for California campus employees
  • Ensure employees meet mandatory training requirements
  • Collect and organize employee data and files
  • Support internal compliance audits and examinations
  • Conduct exit interviews and report relevant information to Human Resources leadership
  • Provide project management for events and HR activities as required
  • Assist with employee engagement programming projects
  • Recommend improvements to improve employee engagement at the California campus
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or significant work experience in lieu thereof
  • 2 years of progressive Human Resources experience, including proven employee relations experience
  • Working knowledge of employee relations and recruitment/onboarding administration and practices
  • Working knowledge of HR systems, policies and procedures, and HR generalist activities
  • Working knowledge of employment legislation required
  • Experience working with an online HR System
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual skills
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills; adaptable, dependable, and able to manage multiple priorities at once
  • Service responsiveness to internal customers and effective partnership with HR colleagues
  • Ability to determine when to escalate and when situations may be handled independently
  • Ability to work within multi-disciplined teams to respond to business needs
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion with sensitive HR issues and maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated organizational, time management, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven track record of working with all levels within an organization
  • High energy and self-motivation
  • Strong computer experience, including effective use of HRIS systems and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Working Conditions

  • Regular work requires using a computer for extended periods, sometimes more than eight (8) hours per day
  • Able to travel between two California campuses throughout the work week due to business needs
  • Must be available to work nights and weekends as required by business needs

Location: Napa, CA 94559 (onsite) | Salary: USD 75,000 - 85,000 per year | Minimum experience: 2 years
