Human Resources Generalist
Job Description
Human Resources Generalist role provides operational and strategic support across the HR function while serving as a primary contact for employee and retiree benefits.
- Act as the primary point of contact between the Human Resources Office and other departments, employees, and external partners
- Provide customer service and triage inquiries for walk-ins, phone calls, and emails
- Support implementation of HR programs and policies across areas including recruitment, employee relations, benefits, and training and development
- Complete new hire paperwork as needed, including I-9 forms
- Provide basic guidance to customer inquiries using OCC policies, procedures, and state and federal laws and regulations
- Manage all aspects of student employment, volunteers, and interns onboarding and offboarding
- Assist with coordination of general employee onboarding and offboarding
- Support the VP of HR and the Director of Employee and Labor Relations with Collective Bargaining preparation
- Maintain, research, and provide data and information to support decisions during policy development and Collective Bargaining
- Research and complete requests for loan verifications, Social Services Income Verifications, OCC and SUNY Tuition Waiver forms, and Public Service Loan Forgiveness forms
- Maintain I-9 forms and purge records according to federal requirements
- Maintain HR document files, including transcripts, veteran’s status, and disability disclosure forms
- Serve as backup for the Coordinator of Recruitment and the Benefits Coordinator as needed
- Manage retiree benefit administration end to end
- Assist with administering college benefits, including bill reconciliation
- Support distribution of benefits-related information
- Coordinate benefits-related offboarding activities, including COBRA and retirement
- Support special HR projects assigned by the Vice President of Human Resources
- Maintain confidentiality for all HR matters
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, university, or foreign equivalency in human resources, business administration, psychology, or a closely related field
- Minimum 3 years of experience, preferably within an HR environment, including responsibilities involving customer service and exposure to recruitment, employee relations, benefits, and record retention
- Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a BA in a 2:1
- Familiarity with employment laws and regulations
- Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion
- Experience in a union environment
- Electronic HRIS and Applicant Tracking System (ATS) experience
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (English and other languages will be considered)
- Working knowledge of HR principles and best practices
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Proficiency with HRIS systems
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Attention to detail and follow-up
- Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with individuals at all levels with a customer-oriented focus
- Ability to analyze for continuous improvement
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and meet changing demands

Compensation
- USD 53,240 - 66,550 per year, commensurate with credentials and relevant experience
