Human Resources Generalist
Job Description
Pima County JTED is hiring a Human Resources Generalist in Tucson, AZ (onsite). This full-time, 12-month position supports Benefits, Human Resources, and Recruiting, helping keep HR operations organized, compliant, and customer-focused. You will play a key role in HR technology and confidential personnel processes while contributing to a team that values accurate systems, clear guidance, and reliable service.
What you’ll do
- Administer, maintain, and optimize the District’s HRIS and related HR technology systems, including employee records, organizational structures, system settings, forms, workflows, and approval processes.
- Support HRIS and third-party system implementations and enhancements, including requirements gathering, configuration, data migration, testing, user acceptance testing, deployment, training, and post-implementation support.
- Review HR processes and system functionality to streamline, automate, and improve workflows, partnering with HR, Payroll, Finance, Information Technology, and vendors.
- Maintain system documentation, uphold data integrity, security, and serve as a resource for HRIS workflows, reporting, and troubleshooting.
- Administer confidential personnel records and HR processes for staffing, classifications, compensation, performance, training, attendance, leaves, and separation in accordance with District policies and applicable requirements.
- Coordinate recruitment and onboarding, including job postings, screening, interviews, background checks, reference and employment verifications, applicant communications, contracts, and new employee orientation.
- Interpret and explain HR policies, procedures, benefits, employment practices, and applicable laws and regulations to employees, applicants, supervisors, and administrators.
- Administer employee benefit programs (health, insurance, retirement, and savings) and coordinate workers’ compensation, leave, and unemployment claims with vendors, carriers, and agencies.
- Support compensation and classification activities, including job descriptions, occupational classifications, exempt/non-exempt determinations, compensation evaluations, salary surveys, and related analysis with the Payroll Manager.
- Monitor compliance with federal and state employment laws and regulations, including EEO, ADA, affirmative action, and reporting and recordkeeping requirements.
- Prepare and maintain HR reports, records, spreadsheets, correspondence, and documentation to support HR, compliance, and operations.
- Conduct exit interviews and coordinate required separation documentation and employment verification requests.
- Provide general administrative and project support to the Director of Human Resources and assist with assigned department initiatives.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Three (3) to six (6) years of experience in Human Resources and/or benefits administration, including at least three (3) years hands-on experience with HRIS or benefits system configuration and workflow development.
- Strong computer skills, including experience managing documents within network drives, shared platforms, and systems such as Microsoft Teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and functions such as CONCATENATE and Text to Columns.
- Knowledge of applicable labor laws, payroll regulations, HR compliance, and best practices, including state and federal requirements.
- Ability to obtain an IVP Finger Print Clearance card.
- MMR immunization required (unless born prior to January 1, 1957).
- Negative TB test within the last year.
Preferred qualifications
- Some college coursework in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field.
- Experience in an educational or school district environment.
- Experience using School ERP Pro.
