Job Description
Independent Furniture Supply is seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to support a 240-employee manufacturing facility in Tupelo, MS. This onsite role manages the employee lifecycle end to end, partners closely with operations to support a safer workplace, and ensures HR reporting and compliance needs are met. Responsibilities
- Administer all stages of employment, including hiring, transfers, promotions, leaves of absence, performance management, and separations
- Conduct exit interviews and analyze turnover trends
- Process employee status changes, maintain personnel files, and support policy compliance
- Support succession planning and workforce development initiatives
- Serve as a trusted resource for employees and supervisors on HR policies and workplace concerns
- Investigate employee complaints and recommend appropriate resolutions
- Coach managers on employee relations, performance management, corrective action, and conflict resolution
- Foster a positive workplace culture focused on engagement, accountability, and respect
- Administer benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, and retirement plans
- Coordinate annual open enrollment and respond to employee benefit inquiries
- Administer FMLA, ADA accommodations, workers’ compensation, and other leave programs
- Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, maintain required records, and manage labor law postings
- Assist with policy updates and employee handbook revisions, and support audits and reporting requirements
- Partner with operations to promote a safe work environment, coordinate safety training and orientation, and participate in safety committee meetings and inspections
- Manage workers’ compensation claims, return-to-work programs, safety metrics, and support accident investigations with corrective actions
- Promote OSHA compliance and continuous safety improvement initiatives
- Review timekeeping records for accuracy, process HR-related payroll changes, and coordinate with payroll to ensure compensation and benefit deductions are correct
- Prepare HR reports and metrics, including turnover, absenteeism, recruiting, and headcount
- Maintain confidentiality of employee information and recommend process improvements to increase HR efficiency
- Participate in special HR projects as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred)
- 3–5 years of progressive Human Resources experience
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Experience supporting a manufacturing or industrial environment (preferred)
- Experience with employee relations, benefits administration, recruiting, and safety programs
- Working knowledge of OSHA, FMLA, ADA, FLSA, COBRA, HIPAA, EEOC, and other employment regulations
- Strong understanding of HR best practices and employment law
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HRIS systems
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Preferred certifications
- SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP)
- Professional in Human Resources (PHR)
- OSHA 30-Hour Certification (preferred)
Working conditions and physical requirements
- Primarily based in a manufacturing facility with regular exposure to production areas
- Occasional exposure to noise, machinery, temperature variations, and PPE requirements
- May require occasional after-hours support for recruiting events, investigations, or emergency situations
- Ability to walk throughout the manufacturing facility daily
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, and use a computer for extended periods
- Ability to respond to emergencies within the plant environment
