Job Description
Gadsden State Community College is seeking a seasoned Human Resources Specialist to support the daily operations of the Office of Human Resources onsite in Gadsden, Alabama. The role involves processing employee paperwork, maintaining confidential personnel files, developing documents and reports, and assisting with recruitment, onboarding, and professional development in a professional, service-focused environment. The position offers a salary range of USD 45,220 to 62,710 per year and requires a bachelor’s degree plus five years of full-time professional office experience.
Responsibilities
- Support the day-to-day operations of the Office of Human Resources.
- Process employee paperwork and enter data into Banner and other systems.
- Create and maintain personnel files; ensure the security and confidentiality of all personnel information, files, and documents.
- Contribute to recruitment and selection processes; draft and post job announcements, manage the applicant database, and prepare related communications and documents.
- Draft letters of appointment for administrators, faculty, and staff.
- Maintain a comprehensive database of all College employees.
- Update employee salary data, including experience and step placement.
- Collaborate with payroll staff to ensure timely and accurate information processing.
- Assist in developing reports and documents using word processing, spreadsheets, and desktop publishing software.
- Respond to employment inquiries by phone and in writing.
- Serve as a liaison between the Director of Human Resources and other College and community personnel.
- Assist with employee orientation, training, and professional development.
- Maintain and update the Employee Handbook.
- Demonstrate initiative to take on additional tasks as needed.
- Enhance professional knowledge and skills through ongoing development and continuing education.
- Comply with all policies of the Alabama Community College System and the College.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.
- Five (5) years of full-time work experience in a professional office environment.
- Knowledge of administrative and office procedures and systems such as workflow, file/records management, forms design, and related terminology.
- Understanding of personnel classifications and compensation, employee relations, and personnel information.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and time management skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to multi-task and prioritize while applying critical thinking.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Access, Excel).
- Ability to prepare accurate reports, records, and correspondence.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and the public.
