Job Description

City of Hermosa Beach is seeking a skilled Human Resources Technician to provide technical and administrative HR support within the city's human resources team. This onsite role encompasses recruitment, benefits enrollment, leave administration, records maintenance, and training, contributing to efficient, compliant HR workflows. The position is based in Hermosa Beach, California, with a monthly salary range of USD 5,957 - 7,242 per monthly.

Responsibilities

  • Drafts and distributes job announcements across online boards, social channels, and professional publications, and tracks candidate flow through the Applicant Tracking System.
  • Conducts initial qualification screening and coordinates notification mailings to applicants about their status.
  • Coordinates oral board interview logistics, secures raters, prepares interview packets, and maintains a professional interview setting.
  • Proctors written and performance exams, safeguards testing materials, and ensures accurate scoring.
  • Plans and runs new hire orientation and verifies completion and filing of required tax, retirement, and policy forms.
  • Enters and audits HRIS/ERP data to ensure accurate processing of raises, promotions, and benefits updates.
  • Monitors leaves of absence, drafts FMLA/CFRA eligibility communications, and coordinates with payroll on leave status.
  • Responds to routine inquiries from employees and the public about job opportunities, benefit plans, and general HR procedures.
  • Coordinates scheduling of pre-employment physicals, drug screens, and background checks, and tracks results to ensure city standards compliance.
  • Maintains official personnel, medical, and recruitment files in line with records retention schedules and privacy laws.
  • As directed by professional staff, compiles data for annual salary surveys and EEO-1 reporting.
  • Processes HR vendor invoices and maintains tracking logs for the division budget.

  • Environment: Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting with extensive public contact and frequent interruptions.

  • Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
  • Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
