Job Description

Rhoads Industries, Inc., a Philadelphia, PA based manufacturing company, is seeking a Senior HR Generalist to provide hands-on HR support for the touch-labor workforce and operations onsite. This role works closely with operations to align HR practices with production goals, address day-to-day employee inquiries, and strengthen labor relations within a fast-paced, unionized environment.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a liaison between touch-labor employees and the operations management team.
  • Respond to day-to-day employee inquiries regarding benefits, compensation, attendance, and other general concerns.
  • Assist with the disciplinary process to ensure timely, consistent, and appropriate intervention in line with company work rules and union collective bargaining agreements.
  • Conduct employee relations investigations, analyze organizational health issues, and partner with the HR director to develop and execute plans to address problem areas.
  • Provide counseling and direction to employees, facilitate communication, and help resolve conflicts that affect employee engagement.
  • Provide guidance on employment related issues (such as ADA, FMLA, FLSA, harassment, discrimination, corrective action and progressive discipline) to operations leadership.
  • Prepare reports and identify trends in employee-related issues, turnover and performance; offer solutions to operations leadership.
  • Assist with performance appraisal processes, guide managers/supervisors overseeing union and non-union workforces, and help develop performance improvement plans to drive operations objectives.
  • Assist with the creation and implementation of effective training and development programs for a growing operations leadership team.
  • Develop proactive communications, employee relations/recognition, and appreciation programs.
  • Maintain and update the HRIS and other operations systems, ensuring accurate data.
  • Generate reports and analyze data to inform leadership decisions.
  • Provide communication to the touch-labor workforce regarding operations initiatives, policies, and events.
  • Provide additional support to the operations management team as needed.
  • Other duties and tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resource management, Business Administration, or related field.
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred.
  • US citizenship required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a human resources generalist or labor relations role.
  • Proven experience supporting the operations department in a warehouse, construction, manufacturing, production or similar industrial environment.
  • Prior experience working with a unionized workforce.
  • Ability to adjust work schedule as necessary, including working additional hours to support a growing workforce on both first and second shifts.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with emotional intelligence.
  • Knowledge of HR laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite; proficiency in Excel.
  • Self-starter with problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills; detail-oriented and efficient.
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks in a rapidly growing organization.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; comfortable engaging on the shop floor.

The Work Environment at Rhoads

  • The position involves exposure to construction or industrial areas where personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hard hats, and hearing protection is required.
  • Must be able to work in various physical positions, including sitting, standing, walking, and driving an automobile.
  • May require walking and standing on irregular, uneven surfaces in an industrial setting and may involve climbing and descending ladders and ship stairways at increased heights.
