Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist / Human Resources Generalist
Job Description
Standard Motor Products is seeking a dual-role Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist and Human Resources Generalist to oversee safety, environmental compliance, and HR support across our distribution operations in Shawnee, Kansas. This position blends EHS leadership with HR responsibilities to maintain a safe, compliant facility while supporting people operations in a dynamic logistics environment.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate hazards within the facility for safety, health, and environmental risks and recommend improvements.
- Review and enhance health and safety procedures and programs across all departments, developing new ones where needed.
- Lead the facility Safety Team and drive emergency response initiatives, including CPR and first aid training for staff.
- Manage accident and injury investigations, environmental incident investigations, and recommend appropriate action.
- Administer the Workers’ Compensation program and maintain EHS files, environment permits, accidents and training records, and regulatory logs.
- Maintain contingency plans, including fire prevention and procedures for controlling hazardous spills, in line with government regulations and insurance requirements.
- Train employees on safety policies, procedures, and regulations and develop inspection policies with regular schedules.
- Perform other departmental duties as assigned and assist HR needs such as payroll, recruitment, benefits, and employee engagement as needed.
- Process weekly and monthly Safety, Operations, and HR metric reports.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, environmental science, or a related discipline (preferred).
- Minimum of three years at a distribution or manufacturing site with 200+ employees in an EHS leadership role.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and requirements and ability to interact with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
- Understanding of workers’ compensation and liability insurance claims.
- Experience conducting safety audits, job safety analyses, accident investigations, data analysis, and managing OSHA 300 logs.
- Experience with programs including hazardous and non-hazardous waste, chemical management, hazard communication, and forklift safety.
- Experience developing, organizing, and conducting presentations and training programs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; proficient with Microsoft Office; experience with HR and payroll systems.
- Strong problem-solving, leadership, and interpersonal abilities; capable of functioning with independence and initiative.
