Human Resource Administrator
Job Description
Stanford University is seeking a Human Resource Administrator (onsite) to support the Department of Neurosurgery under the Associate Director of Administration and Operations. This role provides hands-on HR administration across recruiting and onboarding, compensation and benefits, disability/leave, workers’ compensation, HRIS and analytics, performance management, and day-to-day HR transactions. You will help faculty and staff find clarity on HR policy and procedures while supporting a culture where people feel valued, respected, and empowered.
What you will do
- Act as a point of contact for HR policy and process questions, escalating to senior HR team members and subject matter experts when needed.
- Support transactional work across compensation and benefits, processing both basic and more complex requests in alignment with university policies and guidelines.
- Explain and coordinate disability/leave (DLS) and workers’ compensation (WC) procedures to employees and managers, coordinating with DLS and/or WC specialists as appropriate.
- Generate related correspondences, support data entry, and maintain record retention practices.
- Regularly report HR metrics using the HCM system for compliance and audit purposes, and create customized reports when requested.
- Help communicate the annual performance appraisal process by reviewing and tracking incoming appraisal forms and supporting inquiries tied to the performance management program and technology as needed.
- Support the candidate experience, including job postings, screening candidates, interview scheduling, collecting rater feedback, and disposition of candidates.
- Assist with onboarding and exit coordination for staff and liaise with central university offices as needed.
- Support high-volume HR transactions using standard operating procedures, including hiring, personnel changes, reclassifications, and related activities.
- Advise on documentation requirements, including how to revise documentation to meet university and legal requirements.
- Maintain personnel and HR-related files and help ensure consistent adherence to Stanford HR policies, procedures, and applicable federal, state, and local laws.
- May serve as a team lead, overseeing day-to-day work of other staff, including scheduling, assigning and prioritizing workloads, setting deadlines, reviewing work for quality and timeliness, onboarding new staff, and providing performance review input.
What you bring
- Associate Degree and 2 years of relevant human resources experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong proficiency with business applications, including Microsoft Office suite and Google suite.
- HCM/ATS experience preferred.
- Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and handle highly sensitive, personal information using sound judgment, tact, and discretion.
- Basic ELR experience preferred.
- Interpersonal skills to work effectively with colleagues, clients, and external organizations.
- Demonstrated commitment to culture of safety, including personal responsibility and safe behaviors based on training.

- Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to consistently meet Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
