Job Description

This onsite role with the City of Brookhaven GA offers a competitive hourly rate and the chance to support city employees and constituents through professional HR service. Responsibilities

  • Post job openings to job boards and the City website to attract qualified candidates
  • Assist with scheduling interviews and coordinating interview panels; communicate applicant status updates
  • Prepare pre-employment paperwork and new hire packets
  • Conduct employment verifications and process background check requests
  • Assist with drafting offer letters
  • Support New Employee Orientation and related onboarding activities
  • Ensure completion of I-9 forms and E-Verify compliance
  • Collect and process new hire documents in the HRIS
  • Set up new employee files (electronic and/or physical)
  • Coordinate start-date logistics with IT, Finance, and department supervisors
  • Assist with pre-screening of applicants
  • Track employee credentials and maintain credentialing records
  • Maintain accurate employee records in HRIS and update organizational charts and directories
  • Organize confidential personnel files in compliance with retention laws
  • Run standard HR reports such as headcount, PTO balances, and roster lists
  • Assist employees with benefit enrollment questions and life event changes
  • Support Open Enrollment logistics, including scheduling, communications, and forms
  • Track mandatory training compliance (for example harassment training) and register staff for training sessions
  • Help organize engagement events such as Employee Appreciation and Wellness Fairs
  • Prepare sign-in sheets, feedback surveys, and certificates
  • Schedule and coordinate meetings for employee counseling discussions
  • Take notes during grievance or investigation meetings if assigned
  • Maintain confidentiality of investigations and personnel matters
  • Assist HR leadership with documentation and follow-up tasks
  • Answer phones and greet visitors to the HR office; process HR mail
  • Order office supplies and maintain organization of the HR workspace
  • Assist with calendar scheduling for HR Leadership
  • Handle bereavement notifications and related arrangements
  • Serve as a first point of contact for employees and department staff
  • Answer general HR policy, payroll, and benefits inquiries and refer to subject matter experts as needed
  • Draft HR email communications, memos, and announcements
  • Process Open Records Requests and Employment Verification Requests

Requirements

  • Ability to function effectively as an HR Business Partner to HR team members
  • Proficiency with HRIS/ATS systems, Microsoft Office (especially Excel), and data/records management
  • Graphic design knowledge with Canva or similar programs
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for staff requests, inquiries, and documentation
  • Excellent organizational ability with the capacity to multitask across administrative HR functions and maintain attention to detail
  • Basic knowledge of HR and employment law, confidentiality, record retention, and compliance
  • Interpersonal skills for assisting employees and managers, supporting onboarding and training, and maintaining a professional demeanor
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Education: Bachelor's degree
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years in HR administrative support or similar role
