Damien Memorial School invites you to join as an on-site Human Resource Generalist in Honolulu, HI. This role offers a $46,000 - $52,000 per year salary and the chance to support a mission-driven culture that values collaboration among leadership, faculty, and staff. The position centers on daily HR operations, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, compliance, and records management, with schedule flexibility around school activities and events.
Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end recruitment for faculty, staff, and hourly roles.
- Publish openings, screen candidates, coordinate interview scheduling, and assist hiring managers.
- Perform reference checks and verify preemployment requirements.
- Keep job descriptions and organizational charts current.
- Lead new hire onboarding, including orientation, paperwork, and system provisioning.
- Ensure clear communication of school policies, benefits, and expectations.
- Handle separations, conduct exit interviews, and maintain proper documentation.
- Serve as the initial point of contact for employee questions and HR support.
- Assist with conflict resolution, coaching discussions, and policy interpretation.
- Support initiatives that enhance staff morale, communication, and culture.
- Assist with benefits enrollment, changes, and general inquiries.
- Coordinate with benefit providers to resolve issues.
- Support annual open enrollment and maintain accurate records.
- Maintain confidential personnel files in compliance with applicable laws.
- Ensure adherence to labor laws, school policies, and accreditation requirements.
- Track mandatory training, certifications, and background checks.
- Support audits and reporting obligations.
- Catholic Schools Virtus requirements compliance.
- Review timesheets for accuracy and compliance with overtime and leave policies.
- Coordinate with payroll to ensure timely and accurate processing.
- Monitor attendance, leave balances, and FMLA or medical leave documentation.
- Assist in updating HR policies, handbooks, and procedures.
- Recommend improvements to HR workflows and the employee experience.
- Support performance evaluation processes and documentation.
- Participate in HR initiatives such as professional development, staff appreciation, and culture-building activities.
- Provide front office coverage as needed.
- Support leadership with data, reports, and special projects as required.
- Assist with schoolwide events that require HR coordination.
Requirements
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of HR experience, preferably in education or nonprofit settings.
- Knowledge of employment laws, HR best practices, and confidentiality standards.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Work Schedule
Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with flexibility based on activities and events. Some weekend and evening hours may be required.
