Human Resource Generalist
Job Description
The Human Resource Generalist is a full-time role based at the Buffalo Hearing & Speech Center's North Street campus, handling recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, and corporate compliance.
Overview
Location: Buffalo, NY onsite at the North Street location with free onsite parking.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, with a full benefits package.
Compensation: USD 23 - 29 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Conduct new hire orientation and related training, presenting biweekly sessions for all newly hired staff; maintain the orientation schedule and modules and ensure managers are informed.
- Proactively recruit for BHSC positions; oversee all open postings in the recruitment system daily; grant managers access to candidates for review; update status and maintain candidate history; post positions externally when appropriate (external job boards, newspaper, social media); attend job fairs when applicable.
- Administer the agency performance management system to ensure evaluations are completed timely; maintain the electronic system, run required reports, and provide managers with access to the correct employees for review; edit and add evaluations as needed; update job descriptions and behavioral competencies; maintain all performance warnings and ensure they are uploaded into Paycom.
- Ensure human resources corporate compliance by staying current on labor laws and related regulations; participate in updates, conferences and other necessary meetings.
- Complete essential HR reporting, including monthly New York State new hire reports forwarded to Albany, monthly EPStaff checks for Medicaid/Medicare eligibility, monthly credential/licensure checks for all professional staff, keep Paycom updated, and monitor monthly physical assessment reporting; address delinquent employees and hold staff accountable for timely completion.
- Enroll eligible employees in benefit programs; conduct monthly benefits orientation; organize annual benefits fair and open enrollment; administer quarterly 401(k) enrollment; participate on the agency 401(k) investment committee when requested.
- Manage leaves of absence including FMLA, workers’ compensation, NYSPFL and disability; reconcile monthly benefit bills with employee deductions; approve monthly benefit invoices.
- Perform general HR duties, share information with supervisors and the team, ensure staff communications when employment changes occur, and maintain employee files along with data entry and other clerical tasks.
- Fulfill any additional duties as requested by supervisory leadership, including participation in strategic initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in human resources, business or a related discipline; a relevant combination of education and experience will be considered.
- 3-5 years of experience in human resources or related customer service roles.
- PHR or SPHR certification preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Word, Excel and database administration.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of personnel using tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment, discretion and maintain confidentiality.
- Excellent organizational skills.
