Job Description

Work location
This role is based onsite in San Carlos, California. After onboarding, there may be hybrid flexibility based on business needs and performance.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with managers on employee relations, performance management, coaching, conflict resolution, and overall organizational effectiveness
- Lead workplace investigations related to harassment, discrimination, retaliation, policy violations, misconduct, and other concerns; document findings and propose actionable resolutions
- Own leave administration across programs such as FMLA, CFRA, Pregnancy Disability Leave, ADA interactive process, reasonable accommodations, and multi-state leave compliance
- Coordinate workers' compensation claims, return-to-work initiatives, and injury reporting with carriers, TPAs, and managers
- Advise managers on corrective actions, performance improvement plans, disciplinary steps, and terminations while ensuring legal compliance and consistency
- Interpret and enforce company policies in alignment with federal, state, and local employment laws
- Support recruiting, onboarding, employee engagement, and retention initiatives
- Deliver manager training and coaching on employee relations, compliance, performance management, and HR best practices
- Collaborate cross-functionally with HR, Accounting, Operations, and leadership to support initiatives and process improvements
- Maintain accurate HR documentation and reporting while handling confidential information with professionalism

Education and experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of progressive HR experience, including substantial employee relations responsibilities
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
- Professional HR certification (PHR, PHRca, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP) preferred
- Strong knowledge of California employment law, including wage and hour, leave administration, accommodations, and workers' compensation practices
- Experience conducting workplace investigations and advising managers on employee relations matters
- HRIS experience; ADP Workforce Now highly preferred
- Multi-state HR experience preferred
- Multifamily property management experience is a plus
Skills and competencies
- Solid employee relations, conflict resolution, and workplace investigation capabilities
- Thorough understanding of California employment law and multi-state HR compliance
- Experience administering leaves of absence, ADA accommodations, and workers' compensation programs
- Intermediate Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, sorting, filtering, and basic reporting
- Excellent communication, coaching, and interpersonal abilities
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Proficiency with HRIS, Microsoft Office, and reporting tools
- Customer service mindset and ability to build collaborative relationships across all levels
