Human Resources Business Partner
Job Description
Employer’s Guardian is seeking an HR Business Partner for hybrid work in Rancho Cordova, CA to support small to mid-size clients across compliance, risk, and day-to-day people operations.
Responsibilities
- Employer liability consulting: identify employer liability areas and translate complex regulations into practical guidance
- Partner with clients to design and implement policies that reduce exposure in high-risk areas such as discrimination, wage and hour, and employment separations
- Proactively educate leaders on evolving local, state, and federal requirements
- Provide risk analysis on employment decisions to support confident, forward-looking compliance
- Wage and hour compliance: review pay practices for compliance with federal and state regulations
- Deliver clear guidance and design strategic pay plans, including bonus, commission, and piece-rate structures
- Conduct regular wage and hour audits, identify compliance risks, and recommend changes
- Partner with the EG Payroll team to implement compliant pay plans and time
- Legal defense preparation: research, review, and prepare responses to claims involving discrimination and wage and hour issues
- Provide preliminary risk assessments in collaboration with clients
- Coordinate with internal teams, external partners, and legal counsel as appropriate
- Draft defense briefs that are organized, factual, and aligned with each client’s risk-management strategy
- Performance management: support clients with performance concerns using Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) focused on behavior change
- Strengthen documentation, manage UI exposure, and reduce litigation risk
- Advise leaders on disciplinary actions and employment separations
- Prepare clear, compliant documentation that protects the organization while treating employees fairly and respectfully
- Employee relations: identify employee relations trends and root causes, then recommend practical solutions
- Guide clients on handling employee issues and investigations, including documentation, interview questions, communication templates, reports, and follow-up plans
- Provide mentoring for escalated matters and apply employment and discrimination law knowledge to minimize legal risk
- HR infrastructure management: create and update handbook policies, job descriptions, and employment correspondence aligned to client needs and compliance requirements
- Guide HRIS implementation and deliver practical training for clients to manage HR operations day to day
- Internal team support: serve as a lead and backup across HR service deliverables, including government agency claims responses, records requests, and LOA/ADA accommodations and UI claims coordination
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) and 4 years of HR Generalist or HR Business Partner experience
- Professional In Human Resources Certification (SHRM or HRCI) (Required)
- SPHR or SHRM-SCP certification
- Specialization in wage and hour compliance
- Experience in employee relations, performance management, and leadership coaching
- In-depth knowledge of California and Federal labor laws
- Excellent presentation and writing skills
- Ability to advise and influence stakeholders on how HR actions impact business performance and drivers
- Project management experience
- Demonstrated proficiency with HRIS and Microsoft Office Suite; advanced Excel skills required
- UKG and Salesforce preferred
