Human Resources Coordinator
Job Description
Based in Hawkeye, Iowa, Inspiring Lives is seeking an on-site HR Coordinator to manage a broad spectrum of human resources tasks in a hands-on environment. The role partners with department leaders to support benefits administration, employee relations, training, performance management, recruitment, and compliance with state and federal employment laws, including ADA accommodations and Form I-9 processes.
Compensation and Location
- Location: Hawkeye, IA (onsite)
- Salary: USD 20 - 28 per hour
- Work location: In person
Responsibilities
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential responsibilities and functions.
- Recruit, interview, and facilitate the hiring of qualified applicants for open positions; collaborate with department managers to understand the skills and competencies required for openings.
- Conduct pre-employment screenings, including reference checks, background checks, employee eligibility verification, OIG checks, and MVR checks.
- Conduct orientation of new staff under the direction of the supervisor and in partnership with pertinent departments.
- Educate staff on available benefits and incentives.
- Administer daily employee benefits, including open enrollment and life-change elections; manage the electronic benefits election system; ensure proper plan users, payroll deductions, and monthly invoices; administer COBRA and related activities.
- Ensure adherence to effective HR practices and all state and federal employment laws; stay informed on trends and best practices, and train department heads on changes or deviations.
- Prepare for and represent the organization in unemployment hearings.
- Administer Workers’ Compensation processes.
- Handle employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex or sensitive matters to appropriate staff.
- Review Inspiring Lives/PVMI HR policies periodically and suggest revisions or additions.
- Participate in applicable HR training and recommend policy or protocol updates to ensure DOL, FMLA, and related compliance.
- Create and/or update HR forms as needed or requested.
- Act as the HIPAA Compliance Officer: develop, revise, and enforce policies and procedures; conduct training; perform internal monitoring and auditing.
- Administer FMLA.
- Attend and participate in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
- Manage websites that support recruitment efforts.
Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: 2 years of HR-related experience required.

- Certify in CPR, First Aid, and CPI.
- Pass background checks.
- Communicate respectfully and effectively with supervisors, peers, clients, and IDT members.
- Maintain a valid driver's license and driving record that meets Inspiring Lives/PVMI insurance requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Some postsecondary education in a business-related field preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in business (HR emphasis preferred).
- Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification preferred.
- 2 years HR-related experience required.
- Healthcare setting HR experience preferred.
