Job Description

This on site HR Generalist role in Pontiac, Michigan offers a compensation range of USD 55,000 to 65,000 per year. A bachelor’s degree is required, along with three or more years of HR generalist experience. The position covers employee relations, payroll, benefits administration, recruitment, and compliance, with opportunities to grow within a collaborative team. The company processes a high volume of production, supporting up to 84 million pounds per month.
Responsibilities
- Maintain employee and applicant records in compliance with governing agency requirements.
- Oversee and document all employee disciplinary actions.
- Manage unemployment notices of entitlement and related charges, processing them promptly and attending hearings when required.
- Conduct recruitment tasks including drafting job descriptions, reviewing applications, and interviewing candidates.
- Serve as an employee relations specialist.
- Monitor tardiness and absenteeism, issue documentation for excessive cases, and report leave usage to payroll and scheduling; maintain related reports.
- Maintain employee personnel files.
- Update employee data in the Paycom system.
- Process weekly hourly payroll.
- Ensure compliance with USCIS Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification and conduct periodic I-9 audits.
- Assist with creation and timely administration of employee performance evaluations at 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, and annually thereafter.
- Track salary adjustments based on 3 month, 6 month, and 1 year evaluations.
- Report and manage injury reporting, with follow up on open cases.
- Monitor eligibility for benefits, communicate benefits to employees, and process enrollments, cancellations, or changes; coordinate annual open enrollment and election processes; maintain lists of new and cancelled employees per benefit plan; verify benefit billing accuracy and payments.
- Administer COBRA for group health plans.
- Maintain and coordinate employee recognition programs.
Requirements
- Human resources experience in this industry.
- Three to five years of HR generalist experience.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) preferred, but not required.
