Greenberg Traurig seeks a Human Resources Generalist to join its New York City HR team on a hybrid schedule. The role supports onboarding, employee relations, benefits, compliance, and recruiting for professional staff across regional offices.
Summary
The Talent Services Generalist plays a broad, hands-on role within the firm’s HR group. Based in New York City with hybrid work, the position supports onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, compliance, and recruiting for professional staff across regional offices.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and reference guidance from the Business Director, Talent Services Regional Manager, Compliance, and staff to address employee relations matters, escalating issues as needed.
- Assist managers in addressing performance concerns and document such issues; participate in disciplinary discussions or separations.
- Oversee onboarding and offboarding processes for attorneys and professional staff, including documentation preparation and new hire orientations.
- Serve as a primary contact for inquiries about HR policies, procedures, benefits, and general talent services matters.
- Maintain accurate employee change records within the HRIS system (Workday).
- Coordinate annual benefits open enrollment and act as a liaison between employees and the shared services benefits team to resolve issues.
- Provide guidance and support for administering employee benefits programs, including enrollments, changes, and terminations.
- Maintain reports and assist with leave of absence administration (FMLA, STD, Workers Compensation), including communications with employees and third-party administrators.
- Lead recruiting efforts for professional staff.
- Partner with managers and attorneys to define job requirements and develop job descriptions.
- Work with employment agencies on direct placement, hiring, and temporary staffing needs.
- Support the performance review process and related communications with the Business Director and Regional Manager for professional staff.
- Identify development needs and recommend appropriate training and development initiatives.
- Assist with the preparation of HR reports, audits, and compliance documentation; provide HR metrics as needed.
- Collaborate with the Talent Services Coordinator regarding leaves, time off policies, internal processes, and planning of internal events.
- Contribute to the ongoing improvement of HR processes and procedures.
- Supervise Legal Support Specialists and ensure daily coverage, including vacations.
- Maintain active working relationships with Attorneys and Legal Support Specialists to assess assignments and recommend changes as appropriate.
- Support other Greenberg Traurig offices and department activities as required, performing additional duties as assigned.
Requirements

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Development, or a related field.
- SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP, SPHR, or PHR certification is a plus.
- Minimum of five years' experience in human resources; experience in a large law firm is preferred.
- Solid knowledge of HR principles and practices and employment law compliance.

Compensation
Salary range: USD 115,000 - 122,000 per year.
