Human Resources Generalist
Job Description
Metal Powder Works is adding its first dedicated HR team member to build the HR function from the ground up in a part-time hybrid role in Clinton, PA.
Responsibilities
- Lead full-cycle recruiting for open roles across production, engineering, and operations, from requisition intake through accepted offer
- Create and distribute job postings across job boards, universities, trade schools, community colleges, and local workforce channels
- Source candidates and build high-volume production pipelines
- Run phone screens, compile qualified shortlists, and present them to hiring managers
- Coordinate interview scheduling and use structured interview guides to support consistent, fair, competency-based decisions
- Manage background checks, reference checks, offer letters, and pre-employment requirements
- Track requisition status, time-to-fill, and source effectiveness; report progress toward target start dates
- Build relationships with local technical schools, apprenticeship programs, and workforce development agencies
- Administer the employee referral program
- Run onboarding from offer acceptance through the start date and the first 90 days
- Handle I-9 verification, new-hire paperwork, and state new hire reporting
- Coordinate first-day logistics with hiring managers, including equipment, uniforms, safety training, and orientation
- Maintain employee files and HRIS records
- Support offboarding activities, exit interviews, and final pay coordination
- Assist with payroll processing in ADP, including new hire setup, shift differential, and paid time off tracking
- Support multi-state payroll registrations and ongoing maintenance
- Administer benefits enrollment and qualifying life event changes, and support annual open enrollment with the company’s broker
- Support 401(k) and health reimbursement arrangement administration
- Serve as first point of contact for employee questions on pay, time off, and benefits
- Maintain personnel records, required workplace postings, and recordkeeping in line with federal and Pennsylvania requirements
- Support wage and hour compliance, including correct treatment of shift differential in overtime calculations; escalate complex items to the designated HR advisor or employment counsel
- Update the employee handbook, HR policies, and job descriptions
- Support OSHA recordkeeping and coordinate with operations on safety training documentation
- Maintain strict confidentiality of employee and company information
- Provide fractional onsite HR presence and support to all MPW employees
- Document repeatable HR processes as the company scales
- Complete additional HR-related duties and special projects as assigned
Requirements
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (equivalent experience considered)
- 3+ years of combined human resources and recruiting experience
- Hands-on full-cycle recruiting experience with direct sourcing and screening (not agency-only management)
- Experience hiring hourly production, skilled trades, and/or engineering and other technical roles
- Working knowledge of employment law fundamentals, I-9 compliance, and wage and hour basics
- Payroll and HRIS platform experience; ADP experience preferred
- Experience with applicant tracking systems and job boards such as Indeed or LinkedIn
- Strong organization and ability to manage multiple open requisitions against firm deadlines
- Clear written and verbal communication with candidates, employees, managers, and external vendors
- Sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential and sensitive information
- Self-directed approach, including initiative to build processes that do not yet exist
- Comfort working in a manufacturing environment

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or high-growth engineering startup environment
- Experience supporting a multi-shift operation
- Familiarity with Pennsylvania employment, payroll, and unemployment requirements
- PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent certification, or active progress toward one
- Established relationships with regional technical schools, apprenticeship programs, or workforce agencies

- Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
