Job Description
Simpson Strong-Tie Company Inc. offers a people-focused HR role with compensation from $66,600 to $106,600 per year, quarterly bonuses or commission paid on a quarterly basis, and benefits designed to support employees and their families. This full-time, exempt position is based in Columbus, OH (onsite) with 20% domestic travel and coverage for satellite locations in Maryland, Connecticut, and Minnesota.
Responsibilities
In this Human Resources Generalist role, you will support employees and leaders across a broad set of HR functions, helping create a positive employee experience while maintaining compliance with company policies and applicable employment laws.
- Support employee and labor relations, performance management, workplace investigations, and conflict resolution with consistent application of company policies and practices.
- Administer time and attendance programs and support corrective action, disciplinary action, and termination processes.
- Support employee development through performance evaluations, coaching, career growth, promotions, and internal mobility opportunities.
- Facilitate training and development initiatives that strengthen employee capability and organizational effectiveness.
- Provide guidance on compensation practices, compensation guidelines, and pay-related decisions.
- Partner with union representatives and leaders to administer Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) and support labor relations.
- Drive employee engagement and culture initiatives aligned with business objectives.
- Work with leaders to create and maintain concise, well-written job descriptions, and respectfully challenge skill, competency, and experience requirements to support appropriate job leveling and workforce planning.
- Assist with development and maintenance of level guides so employees understand the skills and competencies required for effectiveness and advancement.
- Partner with Talent Acquisition and Hiring Managers throughout recruiting and selection, including interviewing and candidate evaluation.
- Recommend and adapt sourcing, interviewing, onboarding, and workforce planning practices to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Manage day-to-day relationships with contingent workforce vendors and serve as the functional contact for temporary workforce matters, including vendor compliance with applicable employment regulations such as Affordable Care Act requirements.
- Support Learning and Development participation to strengthen leadership effectiveness and organizational capability.
- Support, coordinate, and/or facilitate onsite leadership, employee, compliance, and professional development training.
- Partner with leaders to identify development needs, recommend learning solutions, and support succession planning efforts.
- Administer HR programs and services including compensation, benefits, employment processes, compliance, training support, workforce analytics, and related initiatives.
- Coordinate leaves of absence, workers' compensation, return-to-work programs, and employment-related claims with internal and external stakeholders.
- Continuously evaluate and improve HR processes and workflows to enhance efficiency, consistency, and employee service delivery.
- Support policy and organizational initiatives and change management efforts while fostering an inclusive, engaging, values-based culture.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and company policies, practices, and employment regulations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, Communications, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3 years of progressive Human Resources Generalist experience supporting employees and leaders across a broad range of HR disciplines.
Preferred
- HR partnership experience in a Union and/or manufacturing environment.
- Planning and organizing experience, including independent execution with guidance and training to others on planning, organizing, prioritizing, and overseeing activities to meet business objectives.
- Experience using Workday and UKG (or similar HRIS and workforce management systems) for HR processes, reporting, employee data management, and workforce administration.
- HR Certification such as HRCI/SHRM related Certification.
