Human Resources Generalist I - Onboarding/Employee Experience
Job Description
Valdosta State University is seeking a Human Resources Generalist I to support key employee lifecycle activities with an emphasis on onboarding and employee experience. In this onsite role in Valdosta, GA, you will coordinate recruiting and employment actions, maintain HR records, and assist employees and leaders with policy-aligned HR processes.
Role Overview
This position performs a range of human resource management functions, including benefits, compensation support, onboarding, personnel research, recruiting, and training administration. You will help manage employment changes, separations, and related employee experience initiatives, while ensuring documentation is accurate and completed in the systems of record.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform employee recruitment, screening, interviewing, on-boarding, and orientation functions (20%).
- Prepare job profiles, benefits brochures, employee handbooks, and other materials as directed (10%).
- Maintain and compile data in human resources information systems (20%).
- Advise employees, supervisors, and managers regarding employee relations policy and programs; counsel employees and managers regarding work-related issues (10%).
- Assist in the formulation of staffing plans and personnel policies and procedures (10%).
- Perform benefit management functions, counsel and enroll employees in benefits programs, and maintain benefit records (10%).
- Administer employee training and risk management functions (10%).
- Support assigned employee lifecycle activities, including onboarding, employment changes, and separation processes.
- Facilitate employee orientation, education, and engagement initiatives to promote a positive employee experience.
- Partner with departments and campus stakeholders to coordinate employee-related activities and ensure timely, effective support.
- Process and maintain employment-related actions in designated systems of record, ensuring completion of required documentation and workflow requirements.
- Communicate with employees, departments, and stakeholders regarding documentation, case issues, discrepancies, or required follow-up actions to ensure accuracy and resolution.
- Ensure compliance with applicable university policies, system regulations, and federal, state, and governing agency requirements.
- Coordinate and complete employee offboarding and separation activities in accordance with established procedures.
- Process employee transactions, including hires, compensation changes, reclassifications, transfers, supplemental pay actions, promotions, and other employment-related changes.
- Maintain a high level of accuracy, responsiveness, and attention to detail in data entry, record management, and case processing activities.
- Provide effective written and verbal communication and customer service to employees, departments, and campus partners.
- Assist leadership with research, reporting, audits, special projects, and process improvement initiatives.
- Identify and recommend improvements to processes, policies, procedures, and service delivery methods to enhance operational efficiency and the employee experience.
- Maintain employee records and documentation in accordance with record-retention requirements and applicable regulatory and organizational standards.
- Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and other systems necessary for employee services and case management.
- Perform other human resources related functions as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of related work experience.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Compensation
- USD 18 per hour
- Proposed salary: $18.50/hr (38,486/annual)

- Job-specific training may include: FMLA and Worker's Compensation, Budget Manager training, Purchasing Training (ePro & PCard), and Defensive Driving.
