Job Description
The Human Resources Manager position at Fierce Firearms is a hands-on leadership role overseeing payroll, benefits, recruiting, compliance, and employee relations within an ITAR-regulated manufacturing setting. The role acts as the sole point of accountability for a 100–120 non-union workforce while developing scalable HR processes to support production needs.
Responsibilities
- Oversee end-to-end payroll processing using Gusto, ensuring precise time capture, approvals, multi-rate and overtime calculations, deductions, garnishments, PTO accruals, tax filings, and reconciliation to the general ledger.
- Manage health, dental, vision, 401(k), and leave programs; coordinate open enrollment, life events, COBRA, and carrier relations through Gusto.
- Lead full-cycle recruiting for hourly and salaried roles, including sourcing, screening, interviewing, offers, background checks, and onboarding to meet production demand.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee questions, resolve conflicts, conduct investigations, handle disciplinary actions and performance issues, and coach supervisors on fair, consistent leadership.
- Ensure compliance with FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, OSHA, workers' compensation, and Utah labor laws; oversee I-9 / E-Verify, ITAR screening support, and maintain audit-ready records.
- Administer onboarding and offboarding, maintain job descriptions and the employee handbook, govern policies, and protect HRIS data integrity; deliver clear metrics on headcount, turnover, attendance, and time-to-fill.
- Collaborate with the COO/CFO and floor supervisors to translate workforce needs into staffing, training, and retention actions that safeguard throughput and quality.
Requirements
- Minimum of five years in progressive HR generalist roles with direct payroll ownership; hands-on experience with payroll administration using Gusto is highly preferred.
- Broad expertise across benefits administration, full-cycle recruiting, employee relations, and HR compliance, capable of managing all four areas independently.
- Strong knowledge of federal and Utah employment laws (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, OSHA) and comfort operating in a regulated, security-sensitive manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with HRIS and payroll platforms, time and attendance systems, and Microsoft 365 with the ability to generate clean people reporting.
- Manufacturing, industrial, or other hourly-workforce experience is strongly preferred; exposure to ITAR or ATF-regulated settings is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in HR, business, or a related field; professional certification such as PHR or SHRM-CP is welcomed.
