Job Description

Unity House of Troy is hiring a hands-on Human Resources Manager to partner closely with employees and managers on employee relations, performance management, compliance, recruiting, benefits, training, and policy development. This role is based in Troy, NY and supports an on-site schedule with the option of hybrid work.

Role Overview

In this position, you will operate as an HR generalist and trusted advisor, supporting day-to-day people operations while helping strengthen HR processes and the employee experience. You will collaborate with an experienced Human Resources team on agency-wide initiatives and special projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with managers to address employee performance, attendance, conduct, and workplace concerns.
  • Support managers in resolving employee relations matters by identifying appropriate, consistent, and legally sound next steps.
  • Conduct and assist with workplace investigations, including interviewing employees, gathering information, documenting findings, and making recommendations.
  • Coach managers on performance management, corrective action, communication, and the application of HR policies.
  • Serve as a reliable HR resource for employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Monitor and interpret federal and New York State employment laws to help ensure organizational compliance.
  • Assist with developing, reviewing, and implementing HR policies and procedures.
  • Support the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, training, benefits, payroll, leaves, employee records, and related HR operations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve HR processes and overall employee experience.
  • Work alongside the HR team on agency-wide initiatives and special projects.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of progressive HR experience with a strong generalist background.
  • Meaningful experience handling employee relations and performance management.
  • Comfort coaching managers through difficult or sensitive employee situations.
  • Experience with workplace investigations, corrective action, attendance issues, and policy interpretation.
  • Ability to balance employee advocacy with organizational needs and legal compliance.
  • Working knowledge of New York State and federal employment laws.
  • Comfort working independently, making sound decisions, and knowing when to seek guidance.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Approachable, professional presence that builds credibility and trust with employees and managers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfort handling highly confidential and sensitive information.
  • Experience with HRIS and payroll systems; ADP experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Valid and clean New York State driver’s license and reliable transportation for occasional travel to organizational events and locations.

Compensation and Location

Location: Troy, NY (hybrid)

Salary: USD 59,789 - 65,028 per year
