Job Description

Based in Skokie, Illinois on-site, the Senior Human Resources Generalist serves as the second in command within the Village of Skokie's HR Division, delivering comprehensive HR services to roughly 500 employees across multiple departments and acting as a trusted advisor to employees and supervisors.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage recruitment, selection, and onboarding activities.
  • Advise supervisors and staff on personnel policies, procedures, and employment practices.
  • Support employee relations matters, conduct workplace investigations, enforce disciplinary actions, and assist with conflict resolution.
  • Oversee leave programs including FMLA, ADA accommodations, workers' compensation, and related processes.
  • Support performance management programs and employee development initiatives.
  • Assist with classification, compensation, and organizational studies.
  • Conduct new employee orientation and coordinate employee training programs.
  • Maintain oversight of personnel records and HR information systems.
  • Prepare reports, analyses, and recommendations related to workforce trends and HR metrics.
  • Assist in labor relations activities, including contract administration and collective bargaining preparation.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Participate in special projects and strategic human resources initiatives as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Public Administration, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or related field.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible professional human resources experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certification such as SHRM-SCP, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or PHR.
  • Experience with employee relations investigations.
  • Knowledge of public-sector employment practices, labor relations, and employment law.

  • Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to establish positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Commitment to customer service and continuous improvement.
