Job Description

Legacy Utility Group is seeking an HR Business Partner who will translate people strategy into day-to-day HR practice across multiple entities and states.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary day-to-day HR point of contact for employees and managers, addressing questions, conflicts, and concerns.
  • Conduct thorough, well-documented investigations into employee complaints and policy violations.
  • Coach managers on performance concerns, corrective action, and difficult conversations while maintaining consistency across entities.
  • Partner with People team leadership on escalated or higher-risk employee relations matters.
  • Support the annual performance review cycle, including manager training, timeline tracking, and quality review of written feedback.
  • Collaborate with hiring managers on job postings, interview coordination, and offer processes for assigned entities.
  • Assist with onboarding execution to ensure new hires have a consistent, organized start experience.
  • Monitor trends in turnover, engagement, and performance data, and flag emerging people risks to leadership.
  • Apply company policy consistently; escalate gaps or inconsistencies for resolution.
  • Maintain accurate, audit-ready documentation for employee relations cases, leave, and corrective actions.
  • Support multi-state compliance activities, including required postings, training, and recordkeeping.
  • Partner with Compliance and Safety on HR-intersecting matters such as incidents, DOT-related issues, and certified payroll workforce questions.
  • Act as a visible, trusted presence for field and office employees to support early, honest communication.
  • Support culture and engagement initiatives, including participation in Culture Committee activities as needed.
  • Translate company-wide HR communications into practical guidance relevant to each entity’s operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years of progressive HR generalist or HR business partner experience.
  • Experience supporting a multi-entity, multi-state, or field-based workforce strongly preferred.
  • Construction, utility, or trades environment experience, including exposure to prevailing wage or certified payroll considerations, is a plus.
  • SHRM-CP, PHR, or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Sound judgment for confidential, sensitive, and high-stakes employee situations.
  • Working knowledge of employment law fundamentals, including leave, wage & hour, discrimination, and workplace safety basics.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and conflict resolution ability; build trust with both employees and managers.
  • Strong written communication skills, including investigation and corrective action documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities across several business units and locations.
  • Comfort with HRIS platforms (e.g., BambooHR) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Willingness and ability to travel periodically to field and entity locations.

  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
  • Vision requirements include close vision and distance vision.

Work Environment

  • Time split between an office setting and periodic travel to field sites and entity locations across Legacy Utility Group’s service area.
  • Noise level is usually moderate, with occasional exposure to active construction or field conditions during site visits.
  • Drug-, smoke-, and alcohol-free workplace.
