Job Description

The Human Resources Assistant will provide onsite support to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Dallas, handling personnel actions, onboarding, benefits information, and background investigations within the Northern District of Texas.

Responsibilities

  • Process a broad range of personnel actions across multiple functional areas for assigned service areas.
  • Respond to inquiries from applicants, visitors, and callers seeking employment information.
  • Onboard new employees and conduct orientation on health benefits, life insurance, thrift savings, retirement, military service credit, and related deposits.
  • Review, process, and resolve discrepancies in personnel actions.
  • Provide information on employee benefits to staff and managers, and answer questions about entitlements.
  • Prepare background investigation packages.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Citizen or National of the United States.
  • Must complete a pre-employment security investigation and background check, including a drug screening.
  • Possible requirement to complete a one-year probationary period.
  • Selective Service registration required for males born on or after December 31, 1959; exemptions must be on file if not registered.
  • A USA Hire assessment is required; an email with instructions will be sent after application submission. You will have 48 hours from the closing date to complete the assessment.
  • Specialized Experience - GS-06: at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in Federal service. Defined as using automated systems to track work-related processes, entering data into computer systems, obtaining information from files or reference sources, and providing office automation support (creating, copying, editing, storing, retrieving documents).
  • Specialized Experience - GS-07: at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in Federal service. Defined as briefing new hires on entitlements, providing customer support to internal and external customers, providing office automation support, and using office software to extract, revise, or sort information.
  • Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP) eligibility may provide selection priority if applicable and properly documented.
  • Career Transition Assistance Plan (CTAP) eligibility may provide selection priority if applicable and properly documented.
  • All qualification requirements must be met by 07/06/2026.

How You Will Be Evaluated

Evaluation will consider how well you meet the listed qualifications. Applications are reviewed under DOJ Category Rating and Selection Procedures. Resumes and supporting documentation will be used to determine eligibility and fit with the stated qualifications, and may be compared to questionnaire responses. Competencies evaluated include accountability, attention to detail, customer service, decision making, flexibility, integrity, interpersonal skills, learning, reading comprehension, reasoning, self-management, stress tolerance, and teamwork.

Required Documents

  • Complete Application Package including answers to the Online Occupational Questionnaire (completed automatically during apply).
  • Resume not exceeding two pages; include official position titles (with series/grade if Federal), employer name and contact information, start/end dates (month/day/year), full-time or hours per week, and a list of duties and accomplishments.
  • Experience may include paid and unpaid work, including volunteer service. Documentation of relevant experience is required.
  • Unofficial college transcript if qualifications are based on education (official transcript required if selected).
  • Foreign education evaluation if applicable.
  • CTAP/ICTAP documentation if claiming eligibility (separation notice or SF-50 and recent performance appraisal).
  • Veterans' Preference documentation if applicable, including the DD-214 Member Copy 4 or a current active duty certification; SF-15 if claiming 10-point preference.
  • SF-50, if currently or previously in political appointment status, as applicable.
