Human Resources Assistant
Job Description
The Human Resources Assistant provides administrative and clerical support to the Human Resources Department, covering employee records, onboarding, benefits administration, and parts of recruitment.
Responsibilities
- Support internal and external HR matters as assigned.
- Answer incoming calls and help with HR and Benefits questions.
- Maintain employee record keeping.
- Facilitate pre-employment and onboarding by partnering with supervisors and staff to collect appropriate documentation from newly hired employees.
- Attend new hire orientation weekly to assist with Benefits and HR questions.
- Initiate and complete administrative tasks following separation from the company.
- Support time off and leave administration and ensure effective communication.
- Assist with the implementation and conduct of employee open enrollment programs.
- Help manage benefits payments for employees on leave, including past due reminders and cancellations; collect payment information and submit to Accounts Receivable.
- Complete and approve benefits-related invoices and send to Accounts Payable for processing.
- Assist with recruitment by screening candidates and scheduling interviews.
- Participate in developing organizational guidelines and procedures.
- Recommend strategies to motivate employees.
- Perform other HR duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Excellent record keeping skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work comfortably under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong computer literacy, including email, MS Office, and HR software.
- Interpersonal skills to communicate in person, by email, and by telephone; ability to follow instructions effectively and provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact to a diverse group of staff and auto haulers.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to listen to and resolve employee complaints and concerns.
- Ability to accurately process benefit rate changes and notification documentation.
- Knowledge of open enrollment systems and procedures.

Physical Demands
- Required to sit/stand for most job duties; frequently walk.
- Moderate standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, lifting, and reaching for some job duties.
- Visual requirements include reading a computer screen and printed materials.
- High degree of dexterity required due to frequent use of a telephone console.
- Verbal and auditory requirements include clear communication over the telephone and in person.
- Moderate grasping, lifting, pushing, and/or pulling of objects under 25 lbs.

Additional Job Information
- Occasionally requires high mental effort and strain when completing high-volume clerical tasks and other essential duties.
