Job Description
Employer's Guardian seeks an experienced Human Resources Business Partner to support wage and hour compliance and a broad spectrum of HR disciplines for a diverse client base. This hybrid role in Gold River, California pairs strategic consulting with practical risk management, empowering leadership teams to strengthen management practices while reducing employer-related risk.
Responsibilities
- Employer liability consulting: identify liability risk areas and translate complex regulations into clear guidance. collaborate with clients to design and implement policies that reduce exposure in high-risk areas such as discrimination, wage and hour, and employee separations. proactively educate leaders on evolving requirements and provide risk analyses to support confident, proactive decision-making.
- Wage and hour compliance: work with clients to review pay practices for federal and state compliance; provide practical guidance and design strategic pay plans, including bonuses, commissions, and piece-rate arrangements. conduct regular audits to identify risks and guide changes; partner with the EG Payroll team to implement compliant pay plans and timekeeping practices.
- Legal defense preparation: research, review, and prepare responses to discrimination and wage-and-hour claims in collaboration with clients; provide preliminary risk assessments and coordinate with internal teams, external partners, and legal counsel; draft defense briefs that are organized, factual, and aligned with each client’s risk-management strategy.
- Performance management: assist clients in addressing performance concerns by developing Performance Improvement Plans that focus on behavioral change, stronger documentation, UI exposure management, and litigation risk reduction; advise on disciplinary actions and employment separations and prepare clear, compliant documentation.
- Employee relations: identify trends and root causes, and recommend practical solutions using a consultative approach; guide clients on investigations, documentation, interview questions, templates, reports, and follow-up plans; mentor on escalated matters and apply knowledge of employment and discrimination laws to minimize risk.
- HR infrastructure management: support new client HR setup and ongoing maintenance by creating and updating handbook policies, job descriptions, and employment correspondence; guide HRIS implementations and deliver practical training so clients can manage HR operations day to day.
- Internal team support: step in as a lead and reliable backup across a wide range of HR deliverables, from responding to government agency claims to managing records requests and coordinating LOA/ADA accommodations and UI claims management; ensure seamless, consistent client support.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) with four years of HR Generalist or HR Business Partner experience
- SPHR or SHRM-SCP certification
- Specialized expertise in wage and hour compliance
- Experience in employee relations, performance management, and leadership coaching
- Strong knowledge of California and federal labor laws
- Excellent presentation and writing abilities
- Ability to advise and influence stakeholders on how HR actions impact business performance
- Project management experience
- Proficiency with HRIS and Microsoft Office Suite; advanced Excel skills; Kronos and Salesforce preferred
